Absolutely! Had some feedback from Cinebella saying they plan to release the DVD in about 10 days mastered from a hi-definition source. So support and feedback on Agni Varsha is paramount and what they are looking for as this is the film they are trying to cross over (to western audiences).

Well! ali! I am not putting my money on this film, for AB sake, so I am fine on that ASPECT!
Lately, These COMEOS with SRK/AISH/SANJAY DUTT/AB has been PROMOTED, ONE MINUTE to RAKE MOOLAH!!

to MAKE a FURTHER FOOL of ALREADY FOOL PUBLIC! :bangbang: :stupid:

I think a GOOD , FILM is an OVERALL PRODUCT of team work!

recent example is LAGAAN, where BHUVAN is as IMPT as KACHRA! as a character and ACTOR, I dont think, AAMIR stood out taller than KACHRA as an overall performer in this film, the way ALL CHARACTERS were EQUALLY well thoughtfully DEVELOPED!

U dont see this KINDA team products these days!

Hmmmm! Look at Taran/Moran's review!! Man! he is totally SCREWED!

Agnivarsha

By Taran Adarsh

A painting on celluloid – that's an apt description for AGNI VARSHA. Unfortunately, the film lacks the soul to strike a chord with the audience of today.

iDream Productions' AGNI VARSHA, directed by Arjun Sajnani, is set against the backdrop of a drought-ravaged land where a grand fire sacrifice is being conducted by the Chief Priest, Paravasu (Jackie Shroff), to appease Lord Indra (Amitabh Bachchan).

In an era of substandard products, where the same masala is being churned out in a new garb week after week, AGNI VARSHA dares to be different. Extensive detailing has gone into the making of this flick, which is evident from its plot, the setting, the costumes and the overall ambience.

The first half of the film has what it takes to keep the audience glued to the screen. The story begins in the very first sequence and director Arjun Sajnani's story telling is uncomplicated – simple enough for the common man to decipher.

Besides an intriguing plot, the chain of events – the scene between Nagarjuna and Raveena, Milind and Sonali Kulkarni's reactions soon after, Mohan Agashe's entry, Prabhu Deva's introduction, Nagarjuna's death and Sonali's marriage to a man from her tribe – in the first half raise the expectations for a much better second half.

Although the post-intervals portions has its share of drama, the film suffers on two counts. One, the pace drops considerably and the goings-on move at a snail's pace. And two, the drama is not as impactful as it should've been.

Director Arjun Sajnani has extracted wonderful performances from the cast. He deserves all the praises for that. The shot execution and the usage of special effects is commendable as well. But as a storyteller, he takes a long time to convey what needs to be conveyed in the second half.

Moreover, the film belongs to an altogether different genre and its acceptability by the present-day audience is doubtful. Also, the film can do without the songs in the second half.

Cinematography (Anil Mehta) is excellent. The outdoor locales and also the overall ambience have been captured to perfection. The background score is apt.

On the performance front, the film belongs to Milind Soman. Enacting a complex role, the model turned actor infuses life in his characterisation and delivers a bravura performance. Raveena Tandon is superb in sequences with Nagarjuna first and with Jackie later.

Jackie Shroff is restrained. Nagarjuna is first-rate in a role that has grey shades. Sonali Kulkarni is expressive enough to leave a strong impact. Prabhu Deva is just right. Mohan Agashe and Raghuvir Yadav are, like always, extremely dependable.

Amitabh Bachchan is nice, but his fans will be disappointed with the length of his role.

On the whole, AGNI VARSHA will be liked by connoisseurs of meaningful cinema, besides winning laurels in the international circuit. But for the masses of India, the film has precious little to offer. Business at multiplexes and select cinemas of metros will be the best.

Rating:- * ½.

Look at his rating(just reviewed from MOLLAH raking PERSPECTIVE only) :baaa: :stupid: :bangbang:

Well that just goes to show how dumb some Indian critics are. Also the indian filmgoing public sometimes don't have a clue either...they made a great film like Khamoshi turnout a flop! One thing i've learnt is to never listen to the critics, cos they're all quite thick actually. Remember Khalid Mohammed was one of India's fiercest film critics and then he made Fiza which was full of so many flaws (e.g a 10 yr old Hrithik with the face and body of a man -Hrithik himself, the coca-cola flaw, etc) and you would have thought, him being a critic should have known better!

Then we have the legendary Taran Adarsh (who could be more wrong) ...has this guy ever been right? I can remember he didn't give Dil Chahta Hai a good review and thought it would flop...just for saying that he deserves to be shot!
Taran Adarsh is the LAST person we should be listening to.

Anyway I don't think the film would do well in India cos it's part of a Religious epic (Mahabharata) and we all know of how the film-going youths in India are running away from culture, religion, etc and want to be more westernised than even the people in the west. Also it has a simplistic look more like Asoka, than they glossy glamorous golden armour's of TV's Mahabharata series. And alot of indians wouldn't see it as it's missing the gloss and glamour.

Anyway, it looks good to me, I think I'll go see it...

Much has been said about Girish Karnad’s play “The Fire and the Rain.” So much so that Arjun Sajnani, who directed its stage version, decided to mount this subplot of the Mahabharata onto celluloid. The thick plot of this film boasts of epic scale potential. However, Sajnani, who apparently struck gold with its stage version, goes so haywire with it on screen, that it is merely reduced to a production that is at best, laughable for all the wrong reasons.

“Agni Varsha” could serve as a case study in film schools to explain why the director is (or rather should be) such a crucial part of the filmmaking process. Sajnani is handed a very impressive team on a silver platter, but is clueless as to how to use it. To begin with, there is cinematographer Anil Mehta (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Lagaan) who has proven that mounting simple stories like “Lagaan” and “HDDCS” to epic proportions is child’s play for him. For his leading lady, there is Raveena Tandon who is still radiating in the glory of her national award. Supporting her is a big name – Jackie Shroff. To put the icing on the cake, he has Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. When it becomes painful to stand even this great man on screen, one can just imagine how bad the film really is!

Anil Mehta’s efforts to salvage this poor product are highly eminent. The talented Taufiq Qureshi too tries his best with an innovative score. Unfortunately, they seem to be the only ones interested in doing so. Sandesh Shandilya’s melodious tunes only do further damage to the already pathetic state of the film’s continuity factor.

The screenplay co-written by Sajnani, T. Jayashree, and Anil Mehta, contains too many characters and subplots that pop out of nowhere. The script is also devoid of any logic whatsoever. Besides relying on age-old clichés, the writers seem to forget the nature of the scenes that they are writing, within that scene itself. For example, while Aravasu (Soman) and Nittilai (Kulkarni) discuss the pains of the caste system, Aravasu, out of nowhere decides to let go of the conversation and impersonate a buffalo. Wake up people!!!

One would expect that a director coming from a theatrical background would know how to extract strong performances from his troupe. However, Sajnani needs to be reminded that like theater, you have to DIRECT your actors in film too!

Raveena Tandon – I find it hard to criticize her. But please! Somebody teach her some script sense. Married to Paravasu (Shroff), her character Vishaka is absolutely confused, being an adulterous on one occasion, and claiming to be a “pavitra” wife on the other.

Jackie Shroff – Paravasu is another confused soul. He begins by performing a sacrifice to bring rain to the parched land, then suddenly kills his father, has his brother Aravasu beaten to pulp, and finally repents by entering the pyre. None of the reasons provided to desperately justify Paravasu’s actions come even close to being convincing.

Milind Soman – Aravasu really is a scared, cowardly, confused chicken. Milind Soman looks equally scared, cowardly, and confused trying to play this character. His dialogue delivery and facial expressions are so bad that the audience was in splits every time he spoke. But hey, you know what? I actually did find one part in the film where his performance was simply outstanding – The part where he lies unconscious and does absolutely NOTHING after getting beaten up!!!

The less said about the remainder of the cast, the better. Mohan Agashe, Sonali Kulkarni, Prabhudeva, and Raghuvir Yadav are wasted. The climax of the film where the Big B appears in a cameo as Lord Indra makes you want to drill a hole in your head. The pre-release hype of “Agni Varsha” boasted of special effects done in Australia. Special Effects??? Are you kidding me? I could draw more realistic looking images holding a pencil between my toes! Not only is this movie a waste of immense talent, it is also a shameful waste of precious 35mm film. If I were to pick one enjoyable portion of this particular movie-viewing experience, it would be the trailer of Ramgopal Varma’s “Road” during the intermission.

***Critic looks like another MORAN/BUDHOO :stupid: :bangbang: ???
