1) Name the longest song recorded for a bollywood flick.

2) Name the shortest song recorded for a bollywood flick.

3) Name the first two female music director's who got breaks with which bollywood movies. (Hint their breaks were at least 10 years apart).

4) Name at least 2 actresses who regularly playbacked for their movies. There are more actresses who sang atleast 1 or 2 songs.

5) Rafi,Asha,Kishore sang three different versions of this song. Name the film and the song. Hint this song was huge and still remembered after 30 years.

#1 - Possibly Pag Ghungroo Bandh, the full version is about 15mins+

#3 - Usha Khanna with Hawas in the early 70s is one of them

#5 - Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana from Andaz (1971). Both Kishore and Asha's versions fared better than Rafi's and were nominated at the Filmfare Awards

#6 - Lata never sang for O.P. Nayyar. His assistant wasn't Jaidev was it, or was that S.D. Burman's

#7 - Some song in the late 70s for Ravindra Jain

#8 - R.D. Burman for Shalimar???

#1: I too think it's pag ghunghroo baandh from Namal Halal.
I'm not sure as bewteen orchestral intro and the actual song there are few scenes. Orchestral intro is about 4 minutes and the itself is about 8 min's. I have a feeling this is not it.

lake will the breaks bewteen intro and song can be added to it's length?
# 3: Usha Khanna in Sajan Bina suhangan

1.) As Pag ghungrro baand meera Naachi thi, has a break in the music, I would go with... Mujhe Nau Lakkha Manga de re o saiyaan deewane (Shaarabi...continuous song no breaks) - Running time 10minutes and 53 seconds ( or even more in the film version with the beats and some music which is not present in the tape/CD version).....esp Jayapradha's dance before she humms the title line

A close second (non-stop) song would be...
Sandese Aate Hain Hamein Tadpate Hain (BORDER)...on my CD it plays for 10:30 minutes !

3.) IMO Usha Khanna in Dil Deke Dekho (Shammi Kapoor starrer)
And I dunno if this holds true..but even Lata Mangeshkar composed music for certain films alebit not Hindi...!!!

Lata had even composed for films, under the pseudonym 'ANANDGHAN'the films were:
1950 - Raam Raam Pahune (Here Lata used her Real Name)
1962 - Mohityanchi Manjula
1964 - Maratha Tituka Melvava
1965 - Saadhi Maanse
1969 - Tambadi Maati

4.) Kanan Devi, Suraiyya, Later on Sulakshana Pandit and Vijeta Pandit, Rekha also in Khoobsurat

5.) Zindagi Ek Safar Hai Suhana, Film Andaz

6.) O P Nayyar, Jaidev

7.) Runa Laila with BHupinder,,,do deewane shaher mein (Gharonda)

Song has to continous with intro,no breaks. Also try to list the length in minutes of the song you think is longest or shortest. Some good responses so far.

Pertaining to your question #8 Jazzy has replied Shalimar / R-D-Burman

However then your question is invalidated as RDB was not a team ! and secondly Shalimar was a bollywood film in which there were many Hollywood stars (Rex Harrison, John Saxon etc.)

My guess would be some Ismail-Merchant films :D or even Gandhi..... (Ravi Shanker gave the music)..and which had many Bollywood stars in it ! (Om PUri, Rohini Hattangady, Saeed Jaffery, etc.)..but that would be the 1980s

Here are the answers to the music trivia #1:

1) Longest recorded song for a Bollywood movie, 1970's
Rootha Na karo (Shashi Kapoor,Nanda),the track Mere saqia
clocks at 13 minutes 20 seconds with no breaks by C.Ramchandra.

2) Shortest recorded song Dum Maro Dum from 1971's Hare Rama Hare krishna by R.D.Burman runs under 2 minutes 40 seconds.

3) For Bollywood Hindi movies first female music director Usha
Khanna with 1961's Dil deke Dekho and Sharda in 1970's with Ma Bahen or Bibi. Sharda began her singing career for Shanker Jaikishan in 1965's Gumnaam, she mostly playbacked for this duo and her career as music director was very short lived limited to D grade movies.

Those who answered Lata mangeshkar are also correct,Lata provided score for some marathi movies in 50's.

4) Suraiyya and Sulakshna Pandit did playback for their movies. Out of two Sulakshna had to struggle to do her own playbacks and most of the times she lost to Lata or Asha. Other's who have playbacked for 1 or 2 songs for their movies include Mala Sinha in Lalkar and Hema Malini in Haath Ki Safai among others.

5) Zindagi ek safar from Andaz done by kishore,Asha and Rafi.

6) Lata never playbacked for Nayyar but did for his assistant G.S.Kohli for his first big break in Shikari (1962). Following his hit score in Shikari, Kohli did score for some movies but never hit it big again and remained nayyar assistant. Those who wish to verify this see crerdits of nayyar's movies from late 50's including tumsa nahin dekha (1958).

Some of you have answered Jaidev to be Nayyar's assistant. I did try to research but did not find any movies as jaidev being his assistant. if S.K. or others could list some names of these movies it will be helpful and those answers will also be correct.

7) Runa Laila's first break by Kalyanji Anandji in 1975 for Ek Se Badhkar Ek (Raj Kumar,Sharmila,Helen). Runa did the title track for Helen which was a bit hit. Although very talented but she never made it big in Bollywood and was ignored by all the A list music directors as they did not wish to piss of Mangeshkar sisters.THAT'S A FACT.

8) Shanker jaikishan scored for merchant/ivory's Bombay Talkie
in 1970. Movie starred Shashi Kapoor,Arpana Sen,Jennifer kendell,Utpal Dutt & Helen. although movie was in English it had 2 hindi tracks and 3 tracks by Usha Iyer.

Thanks to those who answered and to those who browsed.

lakeshore

p.s per Muz, Swarasati Devi provided score for movies in 1930's. correction noted.

Ek se badhkar ek (1976) with Raaj Kumar,Ashok Kumar,Helen,
Sharmila tagore & Navin Nischol. Your regular brothers lost at childhood and everyone trying to outdo each other in search of a diamond. You can pass on this one. It's available on a really really bad transfer from Sky. if you really wanna see it try a rental. The title track by Runa was a big hit,a nice catchy dance number.
