I was wondering Ali you have put a pic of Shool, is it also available from Shemaroo. I would love to purchase that film since the ones available are pathetic.

Yes both Shool and Hera Pheri are on Shemaroo DVDs - but don’t know where they are available to buy. Quality is only guessable from trailers really – Hera Pheri from Video Sound was decent anyway but Shool looks good esp if it comes with proper 5.1 sound.

My feelings,I really doubt it. Even if DEI finds a print to release it on their label the print won't be as good complete or complete as Shemaroo's version. It's easy for Indian based labels like Shemaroo to obtain complete print of oldies but its hard for UK or USA based labels to get their hands on new prints of oldies, see what DEI did with bees saal baad.

I have a VHS Channel 4 version of Mughal-E-Azam - just took a quick look at this. The majority of the b&w scenes have a shaky picture whereas the colur scenes are steady. Is this perhaps something to do with the print of the film ???

had a quick look at "Shool" on my laptop. Looks bad. Noise reduction problems galore,
fuzzy picture, ugly i-frame pulsing, missing correct 2:3 pulldown. I'd say hands off.
Full review in some days.

You're right about the noise reduction - its evident on most trailers too. I had the chance to check out Pakeezah DVD from Shemaroo too and the fuzzy picture and noise reduction on that film is pretty bad –blocky, flaky and pixelated video :(

film shakes constantly and is never steady which distracts

Frankly, that sounds worse than "distracts" !

It sounds like it makes watching the film an unpleasant experience.

What is the best way to see this film?

Is there a VHS pressing that is worthwhile?

Is it just my Shemaroo Mughal-E-Azam DVD or are there missing English Subtitles on this DVD? Well, according to its front cover, there should be subtitles included. :sus:

If you are in the UK then the best version of Mughal-E-Azam to see in the comfort of your own home was the version shown on channel 4. The image is shakey in places - but it is less noticeable than the DVD as the excessive DVNR causes the screen to blur.

But - a fresh print of MEA is doing the rounds at the cinema in the UK. Currently it showing in London (with subtitles) but I believe it is going to be shown in other cities as well. Funnily enough the image is shakey (exactly how it is on the DVD) but it's worth watching on the big screen to get the real feel of what a great Indian movie should look like!
