3.) If you have to buy any film ( an older title) under the EROS / EROS-B4U title then avoid that title altogether and search for a DEI-EROS title..

Could I ask a question about the DEI titles?? I've read conflicting info about these. I've read that (<b>Shaloy[/b] for example) that both versions are available depending on who you order from. Then I've also read that the DEI titles are discontinued and that only the B4U versions are in print. I'm confused about Eros keeping two versions in print of the same film.

Jeff

Until about 2 yrs back, EROS had a collaboration with DEI, where EROS held the movie rights and the DVDs were authored and produced by DEI. 2 yrs ago this arrangement was dissolved. DEI was/ is not authorized to produce those DVDs any more. New batches from EROS, of the same movies, were produced by new outfits who couldn't or didn't want to achieve transfers as good as DEI. All DEI DVDs were in Film (progressive) mode and all subsequent non-DEI DVDs are interlaced video. Technically only the left-over stock, of DEI-EROS collaboration, from 2 yrs ago could still be floating around.

Fortunately for us, lots of DEI-EROS collaborated DVDs are in circulation and are available at fraction of the cost of the current "genuine but inferior" EROS DVDs.

There is no perfect version of this film out on DVD. The DEI version, while has decent DVD quality, is incorrectly colour coded. Some night shots that appear on this disc are actually day shots. (See the night scene when SRK is taken into the hideout of the terrorist blindfolded, it actually was supposed to be a day scene.)

Ratnam who supervised the telecine to Digit-beta transfer for the Ayngaran DVD did gamma and colour correction work exactly how he intented the film to be seen. But the Ayngaran DVD is dubbed in Tamil, and has some comrpession problems on the disc (which isn't too bad when compared to other Indian DVD's) .

The source used on the Ayngaran DVD is miles better then the one used by DEI, which is full of much DVNR, wear and tear and frame unstability.

And sunny, not to forget it is INTERLACED ALSO :D ( like all Ayngaran DVDs)... Cant you tell them abt this ? It may be just one press of a button that needs to be done in order to get a decent dvd.
