Just saw this on Ebay :

How does one go about burning DVDs with a CD-Writer. I have an HP CD writer on my comp. Is this possible or is it just crap? Please share the info.

I think your talking about the disc, the post above just refers to the ACTUAL CD-RW burner (Hewlett Packard). Either way, I don't think you can.

You can't burn a DVD disc on a CD-Writer. You will need to buy a dvd burner for that. A cd writer burns compact discs at a much lower speed than that is required to burn a dvd.

You could try ripping dvds instead and making you own vcds using your cd-writer. A cheaper alternative... :where:

Yes, but I emailed the seller of that particular Ebay product and he said this. You do need a DVD drive on your comp but you need just a CD burner to make copies. However, since you are copying onto CD, you would need more than a few CDs to copy the whole movie. Also, he says that you cant copy the menus structure onto CD. All you can do is to rip the DVD's movie onto a few CDs. Not very hi tech, but reasonable enough, I think. Then you play them on a VCD player.

Of course you can't do all that. ITS FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!
The guy claims you can burn a DVD on a cd-writer and yet in the email he sent you he's basically describing VCDs.
You cant rip movies off DVDs and put them onto cds without converting them to standard formats. I suggest you check this website to help you understand more about DVDs and VCDs http://www.vcdhelp.com
This EBay guy is just selling you what you can do for yourself ...without opening your wallet.
