Has anyone ever seen a Hindi movie on an Imax screen? DEVDAS is playing on one in Indianapolis, but I'm concerned that blowing up a 35mm print to fill an Imax screen will look like crap!

FYI- here's a link that gives info on theatres in the US that are showing Devdas.

For a high profile release like this one all the prints may have subtitles, but you can never be sure. The one I'll probably end up seeing, in Cleveland, is advertised as having English subtitles.

Where are you located? My advice would be to call the exhibitor near you and ask them.

The obstacles were many, but Devdas, though dogged by controversy, survived, determined to see the light of 70mm.

Does this mean Devdas may have some 70MM prints also!!
or it is just an expression?

It's just an expression for "big screen," though I think it is used only in India.

These days most US movies are shot in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. All the new theater screens are also of the same ratio.
70 mm has a ratio of 2.66:1. If you try to show a 70mm movie in a 2.35:1 theater, the sides will get cropped. So I hope it is not a 70mm print.

Flat 70mm, i.e., 70mm prints without any anamorphic squeeze, have an aspect ratio of 2.20:1. Ultra Panavision 70, which had a slight anamorphic squeeze, ended up with a 2.76:1 AR.

They are just using the middle part of the IMAX screen.
It looks very good if the 35mm print is good. But Indian
35mm prints are rarely good. I have seen "Taal" on an
IMAX screen and it looked mediocre because the print
was mediocre (out of focus shots etc.).

There is a nice site describing all the aspect ratios used in films.
