Ever since director Sanjay Leela Bhansali selected his cast of Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit for his magnum opus Devdas, industry pundits insisted that it would be tough for him to do justice to both the heroines. Even though Aishwarya as Paro had a much bigger role, Madhuri as Chandramukhi had more strength in her small part.

And that’s exactly what happened after the final copy of the film was out. Aishwarya was very upset and livid that Madhuri had pulled the rug from beneath her feet as far as performances went. But what made Ash angrier was the fact that Sanjay had deleted many close-ups of her on the editing table, retaining all of Madhuri’s work. And when critics at Cannes praised the senior actress’ work more, Ash lost her head. After she returned to India, she complained to all about how Sanjay had let her down completely and even hinted that she would never work with him again. As for Bhansali, he’s been too busy giving the finishing touches to his film to pay heed to her banter.
