What's going on with DIL SE? I checked 3 different sites and they were all sold out. Is this title being picked up by another studio? I'm new to Bollywood films and this one comes highly recommended by others and I would like to purchase it. I wonder if it is a coincidence that everyone seems to be out of stock or if this version has gone out of print?

I tried there too but when you try to put it in the shopping cart it comes up with the following message:

"This Item is Currently Out of stock. Please notify us and we will let you know when it is in stock"

One thing to warn you about, there are at least three different versions of DIL SE out there. Due to a confusion at Netflix and another site, I managed to see all three.

The Eros version is AWFUL. The picture quality is terrible. Very grainy.

The two other versions, I think it was WEG and a dubbed version (in, was it Tamil or Telugu (I'm very new to Bollywood and still don't have the languages straight yet)?) were identical transfers and looked terrific. Very clear, bright picture.

It is a very visual film so the Eros version is not the way to go with it.

Ayngaran released the Tamil dubbed version, "Uyire." I don't know if it included a Telugu track. "Prema Tho" is the Telugu title.

Damn, I think I may have ended up with the wrong one. I'm not sure. After much searching, I found one at cdguru.com. I have no idea which one I'm getting.

I love Bollywood so far, but the hardest part for me is keeping track of so many different versions popping up. Even harder is the retailers never explicitly say which one you are getting!

Jeff I presume you are in the USA... and ur name suggest you need DVds with subtitles ( and u dont / cant speak/understand Hindi )

In that case do the following :-

1.) Come to the forums here and post ur question as to the film in question

2.) Someone will reply to ur post or can redirect u to any information they may know of

3.) If you have to buy any film ( an older title) under the EROS / EROS-B4U title then avoid that title altogether and search for a DEI-EROS title..

the best places to buy DVDs are :-
http://www.indiaweekly.com (Price matching)
http://www.indiancdstore.com
http://www.indianblockbuster.com

4.) Also check out the part of the forum where you have a list of DVD companies and their products to avoid (e.g. BABA, BOMBINO, MDE etc.)

It is always good to search the reviews/previews/forum reviews for screesnhots which may help (but maynot completely convince) you to purchase a DVD...

CDGURU is generally expensive and you can ask Afzal @ Indiaweekly to procure the same title for you at a cheaper cost !

Correct! Although, I am capable of all regions and NTSC/PAL, I do need English subs.

Great. I will do that.

Could I ask a question about the DEI titles?? I've read conflicting info about these. I've read that (<b>Shaloy[/b] for example) that both versions are available depending on who you order from. Then I've also read that the DEI titles are discontinued and that only the B4U versions are in print. I'm confused about Eros keeping two versions in print of the same film.

Great! I just placed an order last night with Indiaweekly but they were out of stock on <b>Dil Se[/b] so CDGuru was the only place I could find it. With my order with Indiaweekly, I sent them an email asking that they send the Spark version of Fiza as I've heard that's the best version. I hope that works!

Yes, I've read through so many reviews in the last few days. Now, I'm just trying to aquire the correct versions of the films I want. Hopefully, Indiaweekly carries the better versions.

Thanks for the info! I will do that next time!

Jeff worst to worst case if you cant find a DEI-EROS title ( ask Sateesh or Matt @ Indiancdstore.com first) then try and borrow a DEI-EROS DVD from a local grocery shop and make a perfect replica of that DVd using a DVD-Burner :gob:

But Under any circumstance do not go near a B4U DVD.. As you can see EROS is a really shit company and they killed the goose that laid them the golden eggs ( aka great DVDs) ; DEI when they ended the partnership ...

Now DEI has been forced to shut shop as EROS filed a court case against it for replicating their older titles ! Due to Zulm.net and all the forum responses as well as reviews, ppl have avoided the B4U DVDs... I even sold an old DVD bearing the B4U label just to get the DEI-EROS version

Now there has been extensive discussion abt Sholay. You should read the excellent reviews posted by Ali and commented upon by many users also here.
The DeI-EROS version of Sholay consists of the version which was released in 1975 (in which Gabbar Singh lives).. It is 1.85:1 non anamorphic

The B4U version is the version which was originally released in 1974 but which was later withdrawn from the theatres as it was considered to be too violent (in those days). Again its the same story but Gabbar singh dies in the end.

Both are not great DVds in any sense and the rights of Sippy Films has expired with EROS so who knows who is gonna author SHOLAY again and it needs a proper treatment as it is a cult classic !

Check out the links in my signature and u can find out what DVDs I have in my collection and feel free to post ur queries abt any one of them !

Sholay was never released in 1974, it first premeired in 1975. Also there were only two versions of the film ever screened theatrically, the 70MM 6track sound version and the 35MM Mono version. The difference betweent he two was that the 70MM version was longer and it had the Asrani and Jagdeep episodes which the 35MM version did not. Also there was a Qawalli included. As for the different ending (considered too violent) in which Gabbar dies, that ending was not passed by the censor board and therefore never released to the theaters.

Well, I finally received Dil Se from CD Guru today and it is indeed the lousy B4U version. I just emailed Afzal to see if the DEI Platinum is still obtainable. If not I may check a few other places.

Why did Eros retransfer all the titles that DEI had done for them? Eros would still own those DEI transfers because they own the rights to those films.

I think this was their conflict. DEI claimed their owned the rights and all works done on the films. Courts favoured with Eros and DEI lost but Eros could not use the DEI menus and art work on the DVD, hence Eros 're-mastered' most the titles.
