Faddy! when I was doing shots, I knew this is inferior than urs! I agree, but it is BOOTLEG version, colors are very inconsistent, some shots better than other!
I just had ali let it go, so it should give u a chance to CHEER UP!! ;) :baaa: # CHEERS!!

But again, from original, I expected a lot better picture, without realizing that this film has some limitations because of its cinematography!! :vsneaky: :cool:

Just bought Monsoon wedding Rental from Ilford Lane, for 22 quid. I must admit I am not really impressed by the sound or the video on the dvd.

There is no rear channel use as far as I could hear on my sound system , which was surely a disappointment as there were couple of moments which could have been done really nicely . specially couple of the songs.

Watching the movie again was delighting , as it defintely is a good movie.

The film was quite obviously shot on film. Just because most of the shots were handheld doesn't mean its shot on a camcorder. A camcorder image would be virtually unwatchable on the big screen. Super 16 actually doesn't look all that different from 35mm - especially if you compare a slow stock super 16 like 50D with a high speed 35mm like 800T(which was probably used in parts of Ram Gopal Varma's 'Company').

Review of retial Monsoon Wedding DVD;

"Image is 1.85:1 anamorphic and slightly disappointing. Yes the colours, especially with the bright orange from the marigolds never bleed, but at times it does lack detail, especially during the few night scenes the film contains. Here the image turns overly dark and grainy, I have no idea if the grain was a desired film effect but it does distract your view slightly. Day scenes are full of brightness without being too high on the contrast. Sound comes in two flavours DD 5.1 and Stereo and both are pretty flat. The 5.1 mix lacks rear sound that could have added much to the dance scenes that appear every now and again. Dialogue is clear throughout the movie."

DVD Reviewer review of Monsoon Wedding DVD which got released today in the UK - (still waiting for me copy);

Video

The 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer is well presented and looks quite `raw`. Monsoon Wedding was shot on 16mm blown up to 35mm for theatrical release and it shows itself up with the darker scenes. There is some dirt about the place, but not enough to get upset about. I think the the story will keep most audiences occupied anyway. Declan Quinn`s cinemaphotography shows lots of colour and life in every frame and is nothing like the typical Indian movies you might know (I dislike the term `Bollywood`, but a lot of them have below average video transfers).

Audio

This sounds good from start to finish. The dialogue comes firmly from centre stage with music and ambient sound covering a very wide arc indeed. All the music too sounded good from the front with a good level of bass. Apart from some of the actors` accents being a little difficult to understand in English, I was very pleased at how clear and dynamic the rest of the sound is.

One that not been mentioned before are the subtitles like the Salaam Bombay DVD are burnt-in and can't be removed. Hopefully the R1 DVD will be better in this respect.
