Amitabh is Abhishek's son in Pa, a film being directed by Cheeni Kum's director Balki.

Unbelievable but this is what the news story is saying. Amitabh's childish look is amazing as well.

Lol to the "Simple Jack" poster, Ali — .

Have you guys seen Paa, yet? It's wonderful. I've watched just pieces of Benjamin Button (Paa looks to have nothing to do with it), but Balki's film is nothing like Jack. The latter was OK, nothing particularly well-made or compelling. Paa works in a very human way, yet the movie's not at all melodramatic or predictable. Amitabh Bachchan is amazing as Auro, and Vidya Balan and her screen-mother are terrific (Abhishek is adequate, but not memorable), but I think what really works is the screenplay: it isn't just that Bachchan delivers wonderfully as the kid, but that he's given clever things to say, and set up (by Balki) to say them in interesting situations. Even the rest of the kids at Auro's school get to do more than just fill in the background -- Vishnu has a couple of terrific scenes and lines.

As for this promotion of Amitabh Bachchan's being "re-invented," it's somewhat pointless. One still knows it's Bachchan beneath the make-up; the point is, he's in a charming role unlike any he's ever done before, and he succeeds in it amazingly.

One thing I'll say I don't much "get" is Jaya Bhaduri's introduction during the opening credits... It simply feels like an odd choice.

Jaya has relations with a super star, no?

Anyway, I repeat, it's NOTHING like Benjamin Button or Jack. Simply looks like it. I remember Cheeni Kum when was released, it was being compared to a French movie with a similar story that was released around the same time. Just funny coincidences...I guess.

If you guys want bollyweird to progress.....this is one of those films to support to achieve progress!! I don't want to hype up the film since I feel it could have been better, but the overall tone and impact is great for bollyweird.

ps--please merge the audio related thread with this one, since it's got film commentary there too :P

Yuvan, with which points were you disappointed? I, myself, don't feel the movie was flawless (really, no film ever can be): for instance, I didn't much care for Amol's "stunt" regarding the press (i.e., his "exposé show") — if nothing else, I wish the plot has called him on it, rather than just heroicize the act. Nonetheless, overall, I felt the movie was brilliant.

Possible Spoilers
that's exactly what I didn't like is how the ambitious young politician's career was portrayed. i specifically didn't like the condom dialog--not needed for a film like this, better to have had a discreet dialog conveying the same message.

That's interesting. The condom bit at the end (I don't see how this is a spoiler) didn't bother me — just as the word "sperm" didn't (I'm not suggesting it bothered you). Something I very much appreciated about the film is how believable and natural the dialogues felt.

I'm not by any means sensitive to the language used. I just didn't think it was "natural" (as you put it) for political leaders to use such dialog in the press.
he might as well have said......"yeah....I was horny and I jizzed without an umbrella"..

How is that "bad culture"? I'd think no condoms is what's to worry about...

condom is safe, but carrying condom is the culture i.e. sleep with "what ever" comes. not sure if its bad or good.
