Video
The Video quality of this DVD is rather good compared to Yash Raj Films
DVD of Dil To Pagal Hai. The colour rendition is great and
there are only a few signs of graining. Judging by the way this film went
at the box office it deserved an anamorphic transfer nevertheless we still
get 100% of the film without any cropping from the sides. The menu selection
offers moving selections with film clips, in the extras department this
film doesn't disappoint. It offers a heap of extra features (something
we have come to expect from Yash Raj Films) like the making of..., trailers
& promos, deleted scenes with explanation from Director, filmfare
award clips etc. The bit-rate at which the film runs is also quite low
as it only reaches a maximum of 5Mbit/sec, although in some song sequences
we see it reach to 6Mbit/sec. This is probably due to the fact that the
film has so many supplements. Video rating: 6/10
Audio
The Audio of this film is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and doesn't disappoint
the viewer one bit. The sound is simply sparkling especially in the song
sequences; it's a real treat to the ears. The surround effect is used
pretty well in scenes like the rain scene where Shahrukh and Kajol dance
romantically in the small shelter as you really feel like you are there.
Overall the sound of this DVD is rendered quite superbly. Audio rating:
9/10
Extras
As usual a YRF DVD is full of Extras:
- Original Theatrical Trailor
- TV Promos
- The Making
- Deleted Scenes with Directors Explanation
- Shahrukh Khan,Kajol and Karan Johar-In Conversation
- Filmfare Award clips
- Collectors Cards
- Bookmark
- 12 Page Booklet
The supplements on this DVD are good, especially the deleted scenes as
you get an explanation to why each scene was deleted. The Filmfare award
clips don't really need to be there as its just about the actors/actresses/directors
collecting their awards and giving a mediocre speech, even the interview
with Shahrukh and Kajol wasn't really necessary. Maybe if they had given
a performance at the Filmfare Awards, like Hrithik Roshan did and put
that on their DVD (like in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai) it would
have been better. Extras rating: 7/10
Summary
This film is one of my favourites and it was a shame not to see it in
an anamorphic transfer but I'm glad that it came on DVD, you will never
get bored of this DVD as almost every scene has something special about
it. This is certainly one for the collection.
Overall rating:
8/10
