Comment: Mixture
of results with the video, source quality is of pretty decent quality
with little blemishes. Colour is generally good but not brilliant and
hasn't that added vibrancy it needs to make the picture more pleasing
- this is however one of the best recent Eros DVDs colour wise. Contrast
is inadequate while sharpness is mediocre at best. Major problems with
the video stem from poor encoding methods; appallingly a constant bit
of 4.8Mb/sec is used throughout with major pixilation noticeable on
motion scene especially the songs and dances sequences. Aliasing problems
are consistent throughout making finer detail look a mess on motion.
Framing is incorrect; theatrical aspect ratio and promos show an aspect
ratio close to 2.55:1 while the DVD feature presents the movie at 2.20:1
- mostly due to cropping of the video and improper matting.
Audio:
Language/Formats:
Hindi Dolby Digital 5.1

Comment:
Pretty decent Dolby Digital 5.1 sound track with songs kicking the surrounds
into action
Overall DVD rating:
6/10
- if only Eros had spent the same time and effort doing the DVD
authoring as it did the packing then we might have had a winner - sadly
a film that is touted as the best of Indian cinema around the world gets
only a mediocre DVD - at best it's just an OK DVD (video is a disappointment)
possibly one of the better efforts made by Eros in recent times but will
leave many fans bitterly disappointed at the treatment Devdas has got
on DVD. As always it's not totally a bad DVD but not particularly a good one either -it should and could have been much much better.
