Synopsis Pure masala movie made during
Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna peak stardom years in the late 70s.
Directed by Praksh Mera's prodigy Rakesh Kumar who also directed Amitabh
Bachchan in later big blockbusters Do Aur Do Paanch (1980)
and Yaarana (1981). The story revolves around harmony between
a Muslim and Hindu family who are victims of bad dude Zalim Singh (Kader
Khan). The film shows signs very low budget production values and set
pieces but it is an Amitabh classic that contains very famous scenes that
are still remembered and loved today.
Video
The picture is presented in the filmed original aspect ratio of 4:3. The
original film used for DVD transfer must have especially deficient as
there are notable wear and tear on the picture. The colour is diluted
and the video is dull and blurry throughout - certain dark scenes are
especially hard to make out. Having said that, this is the best version
of this film that I've seen given the age of the film (some 23 years old).
It could have been much better if a little care had been taken over transfer
and encoding. Video rating: 4/10
Audio
The soundtrack is presented Dolby Digital 4 channel and is only adequate
to service its purpose. Again, due to old film stock used for the transfer
the audio shows signs of break-up and background noise hissing but its
tolerable and in a sense 'perfectly' matches the video. Audio rating:
6/10
Extras
Various Eros and B4U promos, totally unrelated to main attraction.
Summary A classic film of this calibre
deserved a better DVD release than Eros has put out but this is better
than any VHS copy out there and definitely one for Amitabh fans. Its very
unlikely that Eros will redo this DVD with a better film original and
sound (if such a thing exists?!) so either u take it or leave it as it
is. It's definitely a version of the film to have if you haven't seen
Khoon Pasina before.
