Synopsis
When Sooryavansham first hit the big screens, I had very
low hopes on a film that had AB playing the father and the son. I thought
that AB should play his age and play the father roles only. But after
playing nearly three weeks at the cinemas, I decided to watch it and to
tell you the truth I was very pleased with it.
The story revolves around a father and son relationship between the two
ABs. Well-respected Thunderbolt Thakur Bhanupratap Singh (Amitabh 1) has
a son, Heera (Amitabh 2). Thakur has little respect for his son and basically
thinks that his son is a nakama, and makes his feelings blatantly obvious.
Enters into the scene Soundarya, with Rekhas dubbed over voice. She becomes
close to Heera, and feels sorry for his circumstances that he has faced
in the past. She asks him to marry her, and he agrees, but Mr Bhanupratap
tells her to stay away from him because he is a worthless piece of dogs
dinner. She doesn't and they both get married and the furious Bhanupratap
throws them both out of the house. Many years pass and Heera, becomes
a very wealthy man and starts helping people out and starts to follow
the role of his father.
The movie does have a very simple story line but is very good. The performances
by all the characters are well respectable. But the person who holds the
whole movie together is AB and really does his name justice. It was a
change to see AB star in a different movie that does not boast glamour
and pathetic storylines like Mrityudaata, Bade Mian Chote Mian and Lal
Badshah. Definitely worth a watch. Movie rating: 7/10
Video
The DVD is presented in its original aspect ratio but is stretched to
fill more of the viewing area, which is very sad if you are watching it
on a normal 4:3 screen because it makes everyone look skinny. But if you
are watching it on a widescreen television, you are definitely in for
a treat. The video compresses to fit the screen perfectly and is displayed
in its original aspect ratio and un-stretched. A bit like an anamorphic
presentation but it isn't. The original print used for the movie is very
clear and is transferred well on to DVD, with sharp images with very little
shimmering and colour bleedings. If you have a widescreen telly then u
wont be disappointed but if u don't, you'll have to watch the movie with
everyone being skinny!! Widescreen TV Video rating: 9/10,
4:3 TV Video rating: 4/10
Audio
The movie is presented in a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, which is very
well done and does the film justice. The movie does not suffer from any
sound distortion or background hissing and the dialogues are very clear.
An overall good attempt at the sound transfer. Audio rating:
8/10

Summary
If you have not seen this movie, then I'm sure you wont be disappointed,
especially if you are a Big B fan like me. The DVD itself does do the
film justice, and is much better than the inferior version by none other
Eros/B4U, not surprisingly really. If you can get this DVD and own a widescreen
telly it is definitely worth the purchase.

AB plays Thakur Bhanu Pratap… Definitely plays
the role well… Brings back the Angry Young Man metaphor back to his
name!!

KK: Hey where u get that Armani Shirt from
Scrubber: Put some money in my bowl and I'll tell u…!!

Mukesh Rishi plays the stereotypical evil villain who
rapes women for a living…!!

AB: Bend over doctor… nahin tho…
Anupam Kher: Ha Ha… I've got clear view of his arse… Hojaye
Hungama!!
Doctor: Aaarrgghhh Amee Jee…!

AB prances around in a field dressed like a teenager…
he should seriously play his age…!!

Even the elephants end up coming to see AB perform…:)

The way the image should really be seen…!! Pity
really especially if you've got a Widescreen Telly!!
