Typical - I e-mailed Shemaroo a few weeks ago asking if they're gonna release the DVD, and they said they didn't have the rights

Anyone know where I can get this in the UK? All the sites selling it (Shemaroo, Sify, Indiatimes) don't seem to do international shipping.

Shemaroo wishes Shubho Naba Barsho
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, April 15, 2006]

Shemaroo wishes Shubho Naba Barsho with Antarmahal VCDs and DVDs.

National Award Winning Director Rituparnao Ghosh’s yet another riveting story now on Shemaroo.

As Bengali’s all over India celebrate and welcome the New Year, Shemaroo presents a special gift to cine-lovers with the release of Bengali Film Antarmahal’s VCDs and DVDs.

National Award Winning Director Rituparno Ghosh’s film Antarmahal stars Jackie Shroff, Rupa Ganguly, Soha Ali Khan and Abhishek Bachchan in key roles. The film has been around international festival circuits and received critical acclaim for its bold portrayal of lives and superstitious practices of Bengal in British era.

All lead actors have been widely appreciated for their performances, especially Rupa Ganguly and Abhishek Bachchan. Antarmahal being the first Bengali film for Jackie Shroff, his ease in delivering dialogues in Bengali has also been appreciated.

The DVDs and VCDs have been released over four months after theatrical release on the occasion of Bengali New Year as an ad-on from Shemaroo during the celebrations.

The DVD has sub-titles in 4 languages for a pan-India reach. These are English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
The DVD also has a bonus-feature that showcases Antarmahal’s theatrical trailers. The back cover of the DVD lists some of the critical acclaim received by the film in major publications to give a first-timer a better view about the film.

Special features in the DVD include:

Anamorphic Widescreen format presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio enhanced for 16:9 Widescreen TVs All Region DVD Digitally mastered from Original Film 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound Interactive menus for easy access DVD 9.

The DVD and VCD have inserts that contains interesting trivia about the film. It also contains the Director’s say about the film and about the criticism the film received.

The DVD is priced at Rs. 399/- and the two-disc full version VCD at Rs. 249/-

Storyline: A dark, multi-layered film set in the British era, Antarmahal takes you to the backwoods of Bengal where the whimsical and tyrannical Bhubaneshwar Chowdhury (Jackie) is obsessed by the desire for an heir and hunger for power.

The film explores the inner world of Bhubaneshwar, his wives (Rupa and Soha) and a Bihari potter (Abhishek), trapped in feudal, colonial, patriarchal and religious set-ups. It narrates the story of the lengths to which superstition, jealousy and despair will drive a man in his consuming quest for power.

Shemaroo has a bouquet of classic stories from Bengal, which include Chokher Bali, Utsab and Mondo Meyar Upakhyan. Other stories by popular Bengali filmmakers also in Shemaroo’s catalogue include Raincoat, and Aparna Sen movies like Mr. & Mrs. Iyer, 36 Chowringhee Lane and 15 Park Avenue.

Those aren't DVD-rip shots, they're VCD-rip shots. I've got the original DVD, I'll post some screenshots at some point.

Where did you get the original DVD? I can't find it online, unfortunately.

I'm surprised by that, seeing as Shemaroo themselves refused to ship the DVD to me:

Unfortunately Antarmahal is released by us only in India. We will not be
able to directly ship it to you since we do not have the overseas movie
rights for this film.

Alternatively if you have any Indian address where we can ship this product
for you, then you can place an order directly online with us.

Screenshots coming up, including details of where I actually got this DVD from...............

Right DVD shots as promised. I looked around for this DVD on the net and couldn't find it anywhere, and got a negative response from Shemaroo as well. Then I stumbled across http://www.banglalive.com who had no problems sending the DVD to me - got a couple of other Bengali DVDs too, I'll post shots from them later.

As for the DVD - easily the best DVD for a Bengali film so far - but that isn't hard.
