with Paul Giamatti. It looks so much better than the VILLAGE.

It seems that Night is doing movies for Warner Bros. now and not for Disney.

Can't wait. but will have to :(

BTW, Nothing wrong with The Village. IMHO, It's a timeless masterpiece. The problem with people's view of the film is due to their view of the writer/director Shyamalan. He's been type-casted. They were expecting major horror/shocker
The Village is a fine example of great story telling. Just because people didn't like the ending doesn't make waste of whatever lead up to it. I personally like the ending.

I haven't seen The Village, but I'm getting tired of his twist endings. Sixth Sense was very good, but I thought the ending to Unbreakable was obvious, and Signs came together a little too neatly at the end IMO. I accidentally read the ending of The Village in an article without a spoiler warning, and it sounds like an episode of the Twilight Zone.

DragunR2 - you are correct , Mr. Shyamlan is a big fan of the Twilight Zone series and i think he mentioned this in some interview ( maybe on the DVD ?) .

I like his films ..., i am learning to see beyond his "twist" endings and once you start seeing it that way his work is much more rewarding. my fav has to be unbreakable followed closely by signs and village - in fact i think sixth sense is lil "weak" in that regards .

I have to agree with Gary on his DVD review of The Village

here are a couple of things that I really like about this release. Firstly, I love it when great films are immediately snuffed out by critics - it is often an indication that there is something subversive that they don't appreciate. Secondly, I rated M. Night Shyamalan very highly before this film came out - and now have been gleeful to bump him up to a whole new category of directorial grasp and expression. "The Village" also written by Shyamalan has incredible depth of construction. Its political connotations can be read with great obviousness - an isolated community exists where truisms of the world are suppressed by their leaders, hidden to the oblivious inhabitants. The citizens are manipulated by fear, constantly worried that their boundary could be breached by an unknown evil. Topical? Can this relate to our everyday existence? - I would think so. But then again, it doesn't have to. It remains to be appreciated for many other reasons. It is the subtleties that improve the viewing enjoyment. Aside from adequate performances, none that I can divulge without possibly ruining the story.

To be honest, the film has purposeful slow pacing. It markets itself to an entire different audience than it should. So many will be quite disappointed that they are not seeing a "Blair Witch" horror imitation. Instead we have a revealing story incubating truths, love, morality, suspense and keen political nuances. Totally unforgettable. Yes, I'll say it: a masterpiece

I too agree with Gary. Especially his comment about it attracting an entire audience that it shouldn't. It flopped for precisely the same reason Gary mentioned.

The ending isn't a twist at all. Yes, it's like the Twilight Zone. The problem with a so called "twist" is that people were EXPECTING a twist. When they found out there really is no 'twist' they were dissapointed, even though they were on the edge of their seats throughout the entire movie.

Dragun, you are missing out on some great film making! Watch it on a nice big screen with proper audio equipment!

I think the disappointment with the ending of the village is it wasn't a 'supernatural' twist that people were expecting. I don't know of anyone who worked out the twist before they saw the ending.
The film was promoted as a period piece about mysterious creatures in the woods and that's what the audience expected. But you know what, while watching the film, I was wondering where and how Shyamalan is going to make his usual special apprearance.

i worked out the twist before the ending. i knew Shyamalan would make a special appearance, so it wasn't hard to guess. there aren't too many ways an Indian guy can show up in that kind of movie.

I guess Night shows up in the new movie too. His name is listed in the cast.

His "special" appearances are homage to Alfred Hitchcock - another of shyamlan's fav directors ( the first scene in signs is a perfect homage shot !) . In fact of all films i think his apperance in village warrants special mention - its as if the "director" is "setting-up" the entire plot kind-of-thing.

Looking forward to his next one

I will have to learn to appericiate your sense of humour !

anyways - calling a movie pathetic ( esp the one "i" consider one of the best films of 2002/3) needs some clarification. There was a good thread @ DVDTALK on this film ( both +ve and -ve) - perhaps if u have time go over it
