Shuman, here is brief review just for you!
The key theme in PAAPI (The Sinner), is the conflicting viewpoint as to how a criminal or a sinner should be rehabiliated. Sunil Dutt (a police inspector) and Sanjeev Kumar (a doctor) are two friends. Dutt believes that a criminal should be punished as severely as possible, in order to deter him from commiting crime. Kumar challenges this idea on the basis that love and sympathy will rehabiliate a criminal. The criminal is Zeenat Aman, a long lost sister of Sunil Dutt, whom Sanjeev Kumar tries to rehabilate by giving her love, support and respect.
Zeenat Aman is the central character in the film, as the entire story revolves around her. Unfortunately, she is not very pretty in this film, as her long lustruous hair are trimmed to a boyish crop! She stars with Sanjeev Kumar after
Manorajan, and the pair exhibit numerous emotional scenes throughout the film. Despite being a masala, action packed flick, Sanjeev Kumar characterisation and performance demonstrate considerable maturity. Sunil Dutt gives his usual kind of performance, as the long lost brother, who is hunting for Aman, the sister, as well as Aman, the criminal, not knowing the two are the same! Reena Roy is Sanjeev Kumar's 'munh-bholi bahen' and Sunil Dutt's love interest. She doesn't have much to do in the film, apart from a song or two...
Sanjeev Kumar definately have a full role in the film, and apart from his sensitive performance and Zeenat Aman's emotional melodrama, the film is a thoroughly a masala-type movie with typical James Bond type of action prevalent in the 1970s.
