LoC Kargil , Withdrawn From Screen Awards

J.P. Dutta has withdrawn his LoC Kargil , from the Screen awards . In a letter written to Screen , the filmmaker has expressed dissapointment over the jury´s approach to the evaluation of his film .
According to him , the jury viewed his film on 25th December 2003 , the day it opened to the public in only 2 cinemas of Bombay , and voted on it that very day because 26th December was their cut-off date .
Dutta feels that since Screen awards are popular awards , public opinion would contribute substantially to the judging process . Box-office collections , he says , are one aspect of public opinion but yet , the jury had adjudicated on his film on the very day of release , long before public opinion , in any formalised form could have come through .
Calling the awards "highly arbitrary" , J.P. Dutta withdrew his film from consideration for the same . LoC Kargil had been nominated for the best lyrics and special effects .
