Yeap you heard right. After hearing about how much praise the film Kaaka Kaaka got - and becoming one of Indian cinema's bigger grosser of 2003, Ayngaran (Distributors) and AP International (Financers) have helped to get on DVD the audio commentary of the director Menon.

Not only that but it has the first ever DTS 6.1 disc for an Indian DVD and a properly encoded Dolby EX track supervised by DTS (Germany) and Dolby (USA).

The picture will be interlaced Anamorphic 2.35:1, as the progressive set up is still under works.

Sunny, any developments in AVM Hindi films release by Ayyangran, as you mentionned once. Is Shammi Kapoor's RajKumar in it too.

I'm definitely willing to wait till Ayyangran manage to switch over to their Progressive system.

Thanks.

Rana

How many Indian DVD viewers actually have a DTS6.1 or Dolby ES setup to actually enjoy this DVD? I would venture to say less than 1%!!!!!

I would prefer that indian DVD authors work on giving us progessive picture quality than DTS sound!!!

out!!!!!!!!!!!

Would Ayngaran be doing AVM's Hindi releases? That would be better than Ero$ or someone doing them.

Sunny, this looks like it will be a terrific release. I never got to see it in the theater, so I think I will pick this DVD up. It is nice to see that even though Tamil DVDs have a smaller customer base than Hindi DVDs, Ayngaran is always trying to do better and better :)

Ayngaran only do Tamil films, and have no plans to release any Hindi AVM films.

I asked if they would like to do Hindi films in the future and they laughed and told me that working in Hindi cinema means losing money!!!

Kaaka Kaaka will be released in Late November.

I can also tell you that many Tamil DVD owners do have DTS ES and DD - EX set up after much extensive reaserch I undertook during a university project. The primal factor was to do with Tamil films having been released on these formats on cinema, so audiences love to re-create the system at home.

With Ayngaran being the only Indian company to promote DTS on Indian films, and it was Ayngaran who introduced DTS to Indian cinema, thier stance on audio is very high. Ayngaran are now even thinking on a platform, beyond DVD but I will reveal about this when the time is right!!!

They are also one of the companies who provide the better DVD quality's in the Indian market. Progressive is the only issue in question but work is being undertaken for that as we speak.

Finally I can reveal that this DVD of Kaaka Kaaka will feature a director's cut and a theatrical version. The director's cut will show the death of the heroine and the falling of the hero. This ending was praised by Ratnam, but was later changed to a happier ending when test screenings showed that people didn't like the sad ending.

PS I really loved the film Kaaka Kaaka and I can highly recommend it to everyone.

I can see why Firoze Khan wants to remake it with his son Fardeen.

Will the DVD have a proper pulldown or is it frame averaged?

By field average, I thought it meant PAL to NTSC, where fields from different film frames are mixed. In this case, it would be film to NTSC, or "pseudo progressive" in Zulmi lingo.
