I went to see this movie, supposedly classic etc... at the Cineplex Odeon (latest at the SquareOne Mall, Mississsauga)
The visuals were evidently dark, lacking detail, sharpness etc. The overall look was dull as if shot on a cloudy day.
The WORST part was the sound. Man, you should have been there to see how screwed up it could be. There was constant "vibrating noise" (too loud) as if you were watching the film on those in-room projectors... (biascope?!) Me and my friends complained during the intermission to the projectionist and he admitted that there is problem.
He outrightly blamed it on the distributors and the name as u all know was "EROS" He said he got these complaints from many people and he is going to switch-off the Surround cuz that's where it was originating from. He had already complained to EROS and was expecting new prints soon.
After the intermission, he shut off the surround and lo!! there was absolutely minimal sound coming from front. What a pathetic way to watch "hum pe yeh kisne...hara rang dala" as if I was listening on AM radio on a transistor. People were shouting "aawaz... volume..." he turned it back on, with that irritating vibrating noise all the way.
After the show, too many people crowded around the poor guy who was courteous enough to talk and later, offered courtesy passes so that you could see any movie at any Cineplex Odeon at any time.
EROS!!! you have killed the movie in N. America... if you are listening!!
Now, if anyone can give me phone number of EROS, or any DEVDAS crew I would like to make this story heard.
THANKS.. and I rest my fingers.
