Gulaal was shot and screened in 2.35:1 The screenshots have either been taken incorrectly or the DVD is not encoded properly. If you notice the picture is stretched tall and if you were to squeeze down the picture it would then be 2.35:1

What company has released this DVD? Very rare to see an Indian DVD without the watermark (company logo). Looks like Anurag Kashyap as promised after the Dev. D DVD has kept his promise of trying to ensure that none of his films have any crawling ads and /or watermarks.

The DVD released by Eagle Home Entertainment, fairly decent DVD (if played back properly), seems like a high quality source. Though there was at least once scene I remember which has bleeped/censored out a dialogue.

But this is the first Anurag Kashyap film I've come away disappointed, no way is this any sort of masterpiece (going by the comments and reviews on this film). I just didn't find the plot engaging or gripping, didn't feel anything for any of the characters and the narrative I found hard to follow - well maybe not hard to follow but just it was like "what? is that it?!", expecting something more from it, something deeper like from his previous films. Or could be maybe I just didn't "get it" :o I would put No Smoking, Dev D and definitely Black Friday head and shoulders above Gulaal.

Hoping at least by all the critical acclaim this has received (warranted or not), Anurag Kashyap's first film Paanch might surface even if only on DVD?!

Anurag Kashyap has promised that if 'Paanch' is not released by the end of this year, he will himself pirate the movie on DVD. :)

how is the 5.1 sound on the eagle dvd? genuine theatrical 5.1 replicated?
how's the disc itself? any skipping/freezing seen?

^ no freezing noticed
audio is typical 5.1 for bollywood, songs high, conversations low....
tons of ghosting/blends...

thanks FB.
So 5.1 is genuine -- with genuine separation between the 5 channels? So it's not mono track disguised as 5.1?
