I'm looking to buy a small tv for a particular room in the house and don't want to spend too much. The only thing I really want is a 20 to 25 inch (preferrably around 24-25) flat screen with a budget of $400.

The couple of TVs that I've looked at are:

JVC AV-24F702 - 24 inch flat screen around $375

Toshiba 24AF41 - 24 inch flat screen around $390

Toshiba 20AF41 - 20 inch flat screen around $250

Aiwa TV-F2400 - 24 inch flat around $350 (Epinions Link)

Sony KV-20FS12 Wega - 20 inch around $350

Panasonic CT-20SX11 - 20 inch flat around $260

Panasonic CT-24SX11 - 24 inch flat around $400

The Sony 24 inch Wega doesn't fit my budget and the price tag for a 20 inch is a bit steep. I want the 24 inch models, so I'm debating between the JVC and the Toshiba. Don't know if I should trust Aiwa in terms of TV, and Panasonic is pretty expensive and not that great looking. Do any of you have any advice for the particular market segment? I've checked epionions for the reviews, but does anyone have a better source or any personal recommendations?

I have seen 27" Sony Wega's for around US $400. I suggest you shop around, check out Sears because I think that is where I saw the Sony 27" Wega for around $400. By the way at Sears you can negotiate the price to soem extent.

Samsung has an AWESOME 27" flat screen that is selling at best buy for about $400 dollars.. there's a model under the akai brand that is the same TV, and retails for even less.

It's a superb TV, and you can turn on teh anamorphic squeeze directly from the remote.

Sanjay, you've obviously not seen their line of flat tube TVs...
go over the the Home Theater Forum, or audioreview.com and check what people are saying about them.

Actually I have seen most of their range of products including their flat TVs and believe me there are a lot better TVs out there. By the way I deal in Audio Video equipment as a proffession so I do know a little about this stuff. Samsung like other Korean companies is only good at making products filled with features at a reasonable price and I do give credit to their marketing (primarily advertising) department, cause they do a great job in presenting an average product at best as a top notch product.

Actually youullu, I don't trust the Samsung brand name in the long run either. They might be good, but I don't want to risk a Samsung right now.
Sanjay, the Sony Wega 27" at Sears is $550 w/out tax and that's the base model. The 27" is out of the price range, and is a little too big for the room anyway. 24" is the max size that would fit in there, and even that's pushing it. The 20" Sony at Sears is $300 without tax. That is a slightly better deal, but how are the Toshiba and JVC flat screens?

malfunxion.. before you make your decision, check out the Home Theater Forum and see in their TV section, that just recently people have asked for 27" TVs, and the majority of suggestions have been for the SAMSUNG.

Toshiba makes some awesome televisions, therefore it should be safe to assume that their flat TVs are also very good.

Yes, Sony does make some very good products, but they most certainly don't make the best of everything. In fact other than televisions and maybe DVD players they don't make much of anything that could be considered top quality.

I think I'm down to choosing between the Toshiba and the JVC.
Sony definitely makes good TVs, but the TVs are a little overpriced and don't fit my budget. But everything Sony makes isn't awesome; their computers are pretty flaky and the sound systems are average. But Sony's are always reliable (the stamp of the Japanese), which is why I had to rule out Samsung, as I don't think they are reliable in the long run. They might make good looking TVs but their longevity is a question mark (the stamp of the Koreans :D ).
Now I'm looking for the best deal between the JVC and the Toshiba.
