Yaar sengh bhaii, you can make a dvd 5 of 4 hours long film too, just, lower quality and low bit rate! LOC was done by LOCO ZEROS on two DVD 5s! Holly cow!

When dvds were started for hindi dvd makers, they did not know how to burn second layer and discs were either DVD 5 or DVD 9 double sided. Super Digital the pioneers threw their stuff in the market first on dvd 5s, but 3 hrs long footage needs at least 7GB of space to get optimum, audio video, so there dvds were kinda compromised with average bit rate of 2-3 MBPS.
Now on the other side, our brothers in DEI were still scratching their heads how to beat Super Digital in their own game with BETTER looking products, so they came out with DVD 9s, put flippers, where half movie was on each side! a bit inconvenient but better RESULTS! DEI were originally pro quality so as soon as they got their hands on DL discs and mastered to burn second layer they RE DID their orig flippers onto DL discs so you could watch your film without flipping in one stretch!
While SD left their stuff just like that, laters media dimension added sub titles for those titles under VS right holders, ending up as interlaced dvds!
All WS films were cropped to fit on your STANDARD4:3 screen!

till DEI fnally took courage to go ANAMORPHIC WS

but , here is BUTT, they were plagued with squished video, and it took them ages to fix that.
One more note, only FILM that was remastered by a Hollywood studio, with remastered surround sound , was MPK, but cost was a STOP sign, so Super Digital, went PSEUDO 5.1

for listeners to listen every thing from all around and loud lol.
DEI stayed PURISTS they kept stereo, mono, or Dolby surround whatever was original.
They did RE MASTER Sholay original to DOLBY SURROUND laterz!
This is history of HINDI FILM DVDs birth to premature death.

and ram naam satya!
