Looks more or less as expected. Not grainless and not waxy. If it holds up in motion it's good. But the watermark is not acceptable. No purchase.

To me some of the sharpness and detail visible in these screenshots, does not hold up when watching the actual picture in motion. Personally I have never seen such a difference in what I am seeing in some of these screenshots compared to what I observed on screen.

Nope, it's from t-series, they just covered up the t-series logo in the blu-ray cover artwork

Dang, this is frustrating. Does anyone know how Eros release is? I can't seem to find any info on the net regarding this release. I take it that T-Series is the Indian release and Eros is the International release for this title.

I just watched Sarkar and I have to disagree with Sanjay's review. The grain structure is intact throughout the movie. The depth, sharpness and detail levels are pretty good. The yellowish tint was present in the theater too. The only irritant is the watermark.

I enjoyed Sarkar Raj on BD as well. I think it has one of the best image qualities from bollywood so far. The film was shot with a different style and was gritty in nature by intension and the BD is a quite a faithful representation of its theatrical release.

The only distracting thing is the watermark. Its good that T-Series has decided to get rid of watermarks from now on.

I did not watch the movie in the theaters so had no reference to compare the blu-ray with the theatrical prints or what may have been the director's intent as far as the dull and drab look of the film is concerned. But personally I saw no reason why the whole film should have had the same yellowish hue/tint. The film after all is set in current times and mostly in an urban setting, thus even if Ramgopal Verma wanted to use the the particular hue/tint in the rural settings, I could understand but for the urban settings it made no sense to me atleast. There is one thing I should mention. I have very recently replaced the lamp on my projector and I am finding the new lamp to be much brighter and maybe the fact that I watched the Sarkar Raj blu-ray towards the end of the life of the previous lamp, had something to do with my finding the blu-ray duller than it actually was. In fact after watching the 'My Name Is Khan' blu-ray, I have re-calibrated the projector and feel that there is quite a bit of difference in the performance of the projector from when the old lamp was at the end of it's life.

@Sanjay - Could be the lamp problem. I am glad that you got a new lamp. Excited for you man!

Sanjay,

I read somewhere that Ramu intentionally used a sepia like tone for the film. I know it is for the current time but he couldn't get rid of Godfathers' influence... :)

A new lamp would have a little red push until the burn-in period is over at 100-150 hrs. You may have to recalibrate your PJ. Enjoy your new lamp Sanjay and keep posting the reviews.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind and although I already re-calibrated the projector after getting the new lamp, I shall do so again after 150 hrs.
