Hat-trick for Mr Raju Hirani.

Here's a movie for which you won't mind leaving your brain at home. A few plot turns might be preposterous, but they're woven together so well and in a surreal fashion. Plus, the cast is brilliant, the music perfect for the proceedings and the technical aspects all first-rate. Heck, I even thought Kareena was decent. (Thankfully, hers is not one of the Idiots referred to in the title.)

I liked it even more than Lage Raho Munnabhai, which I didn't think would be possible for the comedy genre. Why? Cause it's so much more FUN.

10/10

“I think the big mistake in schools is trying to teach children anything, and by using fear as the basic motivation. Fear of getting failing grades, fear of not staying with your class, etc. Interest can produce learning on a scale compared to fear as a nuclear explosion to a firecracker.”

About 1 hour into this film, it instantly reminded me of this quote by Stanley Kubrick. It's an ideolgoy I support completely. 3 Idiots however(I believe) presents a faulty depiction of this message.
Rajkumar Hirani paints his world black and white, very often characters and situations are very predictable. I also find myself indifferent to his style of comedy. "Indifferent", becuase I'm perhaps one of the few who just doesn't laugh to his highly cheered jokes. To me, their very redundent & infantile. This is figuratively speaking, post-Munnabhai MBBS & LGM. Though, as a film, the latter works alot more for me than the former. In 3 Idiots, Hirani's comedy is overdosed, often making one forget about the actual virtue of this film. "The virtue", itself at times didactic, ultimately a contradicting statement. I'm confused as to what Hirani wanted out of this film? the last act surprisingly felt Johar-esque to me, with ..(spoiler)
Quote:
every character snobbing over the good deeds left behind by Rancho while looking for the long lost protagonist.
. If "interest" is what this film is meant to arouse, I feel empty right now. (Gosh, I hope I don't sound too cold).

3 Idiots has made it to number 4 in the British Film Charts:

http://www.ukhotmovies.com/charts/cinema/

Meanwhile a war of words is brewing between Chetan Bhagat and the 3 Idiots team:

http://movies.rediff.com/report/2010/ja ... hagat1.htm

The argument between them is a bit of a strange one - although the main storyline in the film isn't identical to the book, there are quite a few scenes that have been adapted from it - certainly more than the 5% the makers are claiming. As for the film itself, I thought it was ok - but it dragged a little in the second half in my opinion.

After I saw this film in theatre, I've seen this film many a number of times on DVD (pirate of course). I would like to see a lot of Extras and Deleted scenes in the official DVD release.
I hope, it makes to Oscars noninations at least. V V Chopra's Eklavya wasn't the right film to compete for Oscars, but 3 Idiots, I think will work.
This film would have been a better cadidate for English (and other languages) version release than KITES.

Did anyone notice TV craze of a few Yrs back, Jassi, of 'Jassi Jaisee Koi Nahin' in the role of Mona (Kareena's sister) ??
Pity, such a high profile personality in such a minisicule role.

I agree! despite, stretched, long, thematically is a good bet! To make in English would have needed triming by 30 min or so.

IMDB lists 170 min as film length, not sure if 170 min is 4% speed up video time or actual film time. Most likely, it's the 170 min actual film time.

With it's Tamil remake NAN BAN, we have plenty of extras now.

For one, it's a different shooting but the script is exact same.

And, Tamil version is 188 min (5149.5 meters). Saw it today. Having seen Hindi version already, Tamil version with subtitles, you catch everything. Still fully enjoyable.

Amir Khan - Kareena Zoobie Zoobie song is not as well picturized in the Tamil version as was in the Hindi version (this song in the Hindi version was extremely well done and it's difficult to bring the same magic back unless you shoot exact same). But an extra song that the Tamil version has, more than makes up for that as it's even better than the Zoobie Zoobie song of Hindi version. This extra song is in the sequence where Kareena brings her dad's office keys to Aamir. Song setting was perfect and I think it should have been in the Hindi version too.

I think, Tamil film industry uses DTS instead of Dolby ?? There was a DTS logo in the end credits, but no Dolby. I think it's the same film with Tamil and with Telugu DTS discs ??

Except for 5-6 min for that extra song, film appears to be exact same. Then, the Hindi version should have been close to 182 min ?? Anyone knows the Hindi version CC length ??
