First big film after the strike and already declared 'at least a HIT' even before it's regular run begins. Sure, it's releasing on 2000 prints and based on huge hype, it'll recover it's heavy investment (tons of Hollywood big stars in cameo appearances and Denise Richards and Slyver Stallone's meaty role/ cameo; must have costed a fortune??) in 2-3 days before audience reactions gets out.

Well., I/ we saw it today and reaction was mixed. I, who normally likes masala films, didn't find anything interesting in the film and kept on waiting impatiently when the film will end. Others in my group, some liked it, some didn't.

Film is 3902.66 m as per CC (142 min) but the film screening starting from cc till end of credits was 138-139 min.

Audio: Dolby. (No DTS)

I saw it too... some parts were funny, akshay/kareena did the same act. 2 songs were AWESOME but movie itself was TIMEPASS..

nothing special, but prolly the best we'll get till I guess Love Aaj Kal.. .i'm not too keen on SHORTCUT

//

as for best Indian movies this year... not many off the top of my head
but i like the following (in no particular order):

1. Dev D
2. Luck By Chance
3. From Chandni Chowk to China
4. 8 x 10 Tasveer (nothing spectacular, but i LOVED the twist, very daring for its lead actors)
5. New York (again nothing original/nor spectacular, however there's absolutely nothing wrong with it and NNM is awesome)

However looking fwd to the biggies:

1. Kaminey (this is my most anticipated movie)
2. Luck
3. Blue (2nd most anticipated movie)
5. 3 Idiots
6. Dil Bole Hadippa (this movie looks like a weird combo of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Aaja Nachle)
7. Dhan Dhana Dhan
8. My Name is Khan
9. All the Best
10. London Dreams

Saw this piece of crap today and all I can say is god save Hindi cinema. This is by far one of the worst movies I have seen in years and yes I have seen that other piece of crap called 'Singh Is King'. The worst part is that there were people in the audience who actually were enjoying the movie or so it seemed. Hindi movies seem to be taking a turn for the worst lately, while the inane scripts continue, the amount of vulgarity and crudeness just seems to keep increasing and which is what it seems the audience wants or else how else can one explain the success of these absolutely atrocious films.

PS: By the way, 'Chandni Chowk To China' seems like a nice classy family film after watching this movie and 'New York' I would have to say rates as an all time 'classic' compared to it.

For me, I'd be flabbergasted to see a better film than Gulaal come out this year. It's a little depressing that a film of such unmatchable scale has gone virtually unnoticed. Here's hoping the best for Mani Rathnam & Vishal Bharadwaj.

Film: Kambakkht Ishq
Starring: Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Aftab Shivdasani, Amrita Arora, Vindu Dara Singh
Director: Shabbir Khan
Producer: Sajid Nadiawala
Release: 3rd July 2009

BK INFO: Last week we had a film about Asians living in America, this week again we another film with characters in America but much more different characters. Sajid Nadiawala, known as the money roller, comes back after his super smash Heyy Babyy which was two years ago. Now again, he gives us one big venture but does this live up to the standards as Heyy Babyy? Is this another money roller?

Ups
To set things straight, its a very witty and bold film. Witty in the sense that the film does not take it self too serious when it comes down to comedy, some comedy scenes which are the type we see in films like Scary Movie, Meet the Spartans etc. A very bold comedy for this time. The film gives a great feel from the contribution of Hollywood actors, a little mix and match. So in production values, full marks go. And we are very glad to see such a film in these times after a long time. Nadiawala, as a producer, fulfils his job.

Downs
To be honest, after a lot of expecations of being a great comedy film, Kambakkht Ishq is another 'hit and run' film like we have seen in the past. The first half of the film is complete torture, I still cannot believe I spent that long waiting for a better second half. The first half has no story, no great performance and seems as if no director is directing. A complete 'rif raf' first half. The second half of the film does improve but the film suffers from a story line which has been witnessed several times in the past and nothing new to offer. Some scenes dont offer a giggle even.

Scenes

- Akshay as the doctor
- Akshay runs over the girl under the cart
- The opperation
- The flight
- Akshay being checked for drugs

Performances

(in order in better performance)

Kareena Kapoor doesn't give her best performance but after a long time we see an actress act, which puts a smile to your face. She looks wonderful, acts her role and leaves you under a great impression. Sadly, her talent has slightly gone to waste, but still, a plessure to see her back!

Akshay Kumar does nothing new in performance wise but some scenes he acts in are worth mentioning

Amrita Arora looks great after a long time and her performance is okay

Vindu Dara Singh does make you laugh in some scene with Akshay

Aftab Shivdasani has nothing great in the film to do

Jaffed Jafferi is wasted. Someone should 'sue' him!

Music
All the songs are correctly placed and well picturised but the some that leaves an impact the most in Lakh Lakh which really makes you move and great tune. Om Manglam is a decent track.

Overall
A film which can easily give you a headache while sitting in the cinema. Shabbir Khan has made a complete trash with some good performancers, decent music and good production values. Shabbir Khan first needs to learn how important a script is to the film and the learn the basics of directing a film and not fill it with silly cracks. The film can easily be avoided for the better and for the future we hope to see Mr Nadiawala coming out with better films then he use to. A film which will bank as much money as it can but will never be listed in the history books.

Yeh what happened to the DVD of Gulaal - I don't think it made a cinema outing over here.

guys is Gulaal really good???

I think after the NO SMOKING/DEV D combo, Anurag Kashyap is our generation's Ram Gopal Verma (have we already moved on... )...

Its such a shame its not available on a good DVD...

btw did u all really get Chandni Chowk to China???

It was one of the smartest movies of the year.. while at the same time being one of the stupidest movies of all time. It was supposed to be crazy over the top while being an homage of classic HK martial arts flicks and stupid tantra/mantra flicks. One of the best satires ever and Akshay Kumar fit his idiotic character perfectly!!!

And yes i do think Singh is King is just downright horrible (even though the songs are AWESOME!). Akshay these days is only good for one type of acting.. seems to suit him just fine..

as for actual good movies.. can u even come up with 5 this year so far?

On another note, who's seen 99???? I hear its a copy of 21, but quite a decent flick...

Yeah, I got Chandni Chowk to China.........and I still thought it was crap.

I've seen 99, and I loved it - might be because I had zero expectations from it, but some of it had me in stitches. It's not a rip off of 21 - I think it might actually be original, but I may have just not seen the original version. Well worth a watch.

As for KI, this film always looked crap - Akshay Kumar hasn't done a decent film in ages. Struggling to remember the last one - maybe Khakee or Aankhen?

Akki is like flavor of the season, like himesh reshmiya! or same medicine etc over and over till you are ready to throw up! Akki has come long ways from his horse image, he showed a lot more grasp on comedy that is pretty hard thing imho, but then what happens you get stereotyped, or type cast, same films, same stories, till you loose all the steam! As far as being, multi faceted actor or an actor with a lot of depth to his credibility is hard to find, far and in between! Same thing pooh took out every thing she had in Tashan, people dismissed her as as good as her sirf board she was carrying lol  Where do you go from there? Do art films that she did try, like serious cinema Dev , Chameli, with no buyers! Now only one option is left..and that is porn! or soft porn :D with beau saif!

It's normally difficult to find exact same word in different languages. Although we've heard the Urdu words "Kambakht" & "Ishq" many many times, I wonder how these words can be expressed in Hindi/ English, closest to what it expresses in Urdu ??

Kambakht: Have no idea, how to explain it in Hindi or in English. Film title in English is "Incredible Love". Incredible definitely not the same as Kambakht but may be closest word that's avail. ??

Ishq: I'm sure it's some combination of love, lust, Mohabbat etc and one word alone won't do justice ??

Any clarification ??
