Imho, commercial or not AR REHMAN wins hands down in quality compositions in this hot and happening environment.

2008 offerings might not be his BEST ever! well said but nevertheless are THE BEST OF THE YEAR 2008 had to offer.

1 Jodha Akbar
2. Ada The way of Life
3. NJTNJ
4. Yuvraaj
5. Ghajini

So what do you guys think?

** I just finished listening to Ghajni, and after a melodious Guzarish it was kinda hard to keep my attention together.

But we can see Rehman continuing his Vintage/Southish compositions is trying to compete with Happening stuff from Preetam, VS, SEL, SS etc, with his own STAMP OF HIGHER QUALITY! :D

Jodha Akbar is easily the best album from that list. In fact, I think it's the best Rehman album in recent times.

I more or less agree with Zoran's ranking, though for me the first half of Ada was better than the second half, and I find Ghajini more enjoyable than Yuvraaj. Jodha-Akbar was something special.

hmm! I did not get to hear! His CHINESE FILM BACKGROUND was TOO HINDI CLASSICAL, and MICHAEL DANA over shadowed him for WATER!

As a BACK GROUND INTERNATIONAL FILM SOUNDTRACK of GANDHI CALIBER AR failed to impress me so far! But he is still young! and long ways to go!

It's very much Indian sounding. It fits the movie really well.

liquid dance is lifted from rangeela!

ringa ringa! is redone..choli ke peeche in interesting husky way! but original one is hard to beat imho, same if some one does, chumma chumma, as they did in Moulin Rouge etc, but you wont call that original.

Btw I love Vanraj Bhattia who has done umpteen international soundtracks including recent namesake and super dharam!

I'll catch film on the weekend! A good back ground should not catch ttention away from narrative but flawlessly blend and enhance in its own subtle manners and the best for that purpose were rehman's lagaan background imho

Listen to his new album Slumdog Millionare. It's the best Hindi soundtrack I've heard in recent years.

I did!It is good but not the best in similar International projects I have seen before. A lot of it is rehashed work though.

My choice

1 Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
2. Jodha Akbar
3. Ghajini
4. Yuvvraaj
5. Ada.. A Way of Life
6. Slumdog Millionaire

Call me a rebel, but I think the music of Slumdog is some of Rahman's worst. He's done MUCH BETTER work in that Chinese soundtack, Warriors of Heaven & Earth, a few years ago. BUT then again, myabe one needs to see Slumdog to appreciate the music???

count me in!I thought the same too, for level of project it was, it lacked novelty and freshness, most of time I was trapped in Rangeela, with here and there dips into choli ke peechey on sleazy khatiya, and don etc. I personally find ad and yuvraj better than ur top two, but it kinda show that ur top two, and my replacements are different genre of music re preference.
