I wanted to ask if anyone here has seen the film on the Indian tv channel Star Gold. I did a while ago, and I was surprised because the picture was really bright and full of color. It really made the film come alive for me. Before that, I watched it on the Spark DVD, and that one is so dull. :x So I really don't understand how the picture quality of the version broadcasted on that tv channel can be better than all the DVD versions out there.

So if anyone has Star Gold, and if the film is being broadcasted again, do check it out and see the difference for yourself.
as discussed elsewhere in the forum, nowadays, TV transfers are way better than dvd transfers...

Maybe FarooqBhai could start recording these broadcasts and distribute them for the good of mankind?!

Comparison shots from the German DVD by Disney (yes, that Disney). DVD is only non-anamorphic, but still better than all other versions. Audio is an average mono track - was the film itself originally mono?

It is indeed.

A result of edge enhancement.

I believe it was 1.85:1.

Indeed! Look at Stephen's last shot, jaw line of one of male lead, being dvd 9, is advantageous, only if Video be a bit more naturally softer!

theatrical audio
from the end credits, it's clear that the theatrical mix was Dolby Surround (not 5.1).

theatrical aspect ratio
check the scene where nagesh's character is sitting across an official updating his record (and working out a possible pardon) -- this is near the beginning of the film, and maybe nagesh's first dialogues... the form the official is holding is cropped from left and right -- and this might be the case with the dvd transfer as well...
