In a late-breaking announcement, Eros Entertainment says the Bollywood hit 'Heyy Babyy' is due on Blu-ray this week.

Dubbed the Bollywood version of 'Three Men and a Baby,' 'Heyy Babyy' marks the debut high-def release from Eros, one of the leading DVD distributors of Indian cinema.

"The proven Blu-ray technology has allowed us to take our films to new heights, fully utilizing the larger capacity and interactive capabilities for an incredible all-new consumer experience," commented Sunil Lulla, President of Eros International India.

According to specs provided by Eros, the 145-minute film is presented on a BD-50 dual-layer disc in 1080p video and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround audio.

Extras include the documentary "Making the Babyy," along with audio commentary with the filmmakers.

The 'Heyy Babyy' Blu-ray is currently available through http://www.erosentertainment.com for $24.95. The company says the movie will also be available shortly in retail outlets throughout the United States and other international territories.

Someone has phoned Eros Australia and found out that Om Shanti Om will be released in about 3 weeks. So OSO will be the second Bollywood release on Blu-ray.

In spite of various shortcomings of Bollywood studios (as discussed in this forum), I think, we should thank Eros for pioneering Blu-ray technology in Bollywood. :)

True.. We should be thankful that Eros has taken the lead by releasing a Bollywood DVD on Blu-Ray. Too bad that Sony did not have there act together, and let Eros beat with being the first to release a Bollywood Blu-Ray DVD.

Eros has not been able to get a single DVD right till date, its silly to expect them to get HD on Blu-Ray right. Anyhow whats the point of releasing on Blu-Ray with the same old lossy and bandwith limited DD 5.1 Where is the lossless sound?

PS: I have now had my Om Shanti Om, 2 disc DVD set, replaced 4 times and still have not been able to get one that does not freeze.

This has gone too far friends.
Let's bombard eros e-mail inboxes with simple one line mails

subject of e-mail: Defective DVD - OM Shanti Om
Content of e-mail: Please recall your Om Shanti Om dvds because they are defective on two fronts:

1) The dvds do not play properly - they keep getting stuck and freeze. Some discs do not play at all after the layer change.

2) The 5.1 sound is not recorded properly

Regards,
Dissatisfied customer

Eros and Sony go Blu-Ray in India
100 titles to be released this year
By PATRICK FRATER
HONG KONG -- Arguably the maker of the world's most colorful movies, Bollywood will finally be seen in high-definition video.

With the HD standards war settled, Bollywood giant Eros Intl. and Sony Pictures are releasing films this month on Sony's Blu-Ray.

Eros has beaten Sony to market with the release Monday of helmer Sajid Khan's "Heyy Babyy." Extras include a four hour in-depth documentary on making big-budget Bollywood pics.

Eros says it will also release other titles, including the mega-hit "Om Shanti Om."

Sony plans to release 100 titles this year on Blu-Ray, kicking off with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-helmed "Saawariya," the studio's first Indian production, which will go on sale in the U.S. on March 11.

Supplements for "Saawariya" are slimmer, with both standard and Blu-Ray versions sharing a single TV special, "The Making of the Music."
