Has anyone here been to see on cinema in the UK? A person I know told me that the DEI DVD version was much better quality then the cinema version. Is this true?

I cannot comment on the DEI version of "Mother India" (I didn't buy it as - amazingly - DEI did not subtitle the songs). However, I saw the film on Friday afternoon at the National Film Theatre in London, and although it was great to see it on the big screen, the film was clearly not restored. The sound was very good but the image was so inconsistent, almost as if the print was put together from many different sources. It was alternately, bright, vivid and crystal clear; overbright; washed out; scratched; and in places seemed as if a red or brown filter had been placed across the image.

However, at least the film was fully subtitled (have DEI issued a subtitled print on DVD as they promised eons ago? I have written a number of times to Sandish to ask but, he has chosen not to reply). ???
