Mine are just some excerpts, while complete Indiafm.com report is already in that thread.
Let's leave this thread just for comparative Box Office discussion.

TAARE ZAMEEN PAR heralds the birth of a topnotch storyteller -- Aamir Khan.
At the end of the day, it's not difficult to choose who's better -- Aamir, the actor or Aamir, the director. TAARE ZAMEEN PAR is a triumph all the way from the director's point of view.
But the best part is reserved for the finale -- the art competition in the penultimate twenty minutes. The emotions reach an all-time high as the kid regains his confidence. The finale would melt even the stone-hearted!
Directorially, Aamir Khan deserves distinction marks for extracting an exemplary performance from the kid and handling the plot with supreme sensitivity. In his debut film itself, Aamir proves that he's a gifted storyteller, someone who has the courage to swim against the tide and also convince the viewer that there's more to film-making than the mere masala entertainers. Bravo!
Setu's cinematography is mesmeric. The camera captures every minute detail, every emotion, every tear with precision.
On the whole, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR is an outstanding work of cinema. To miss it would be sacrilege. It has everything it takes to win awards and box-office rewards!
Do yourselves a favor. Watch TAARE ZAMEEN PAR with your child. It will change your world. It will also change the way you look at your kids!

"Taare Zameen Par is one of the best films that you would have ever seen", declares a prominent film personality ---
-he goes on to add, "If there is a film from India which truly stands a chance at the Oscars, it has to be Taare Zameen Par. What a fabulous performance by the kid Darsheel Safary."
- "Aamir has used his two decades of experience into creating a film which is nothing short of a masterpiece.
- "Aamir Khan has come up with a brilliant effort that would shut up all his detractors who find it fashionable to label him as a perfectionist. Ok, so he may indeed be a perfectionist but if this is what a perfectionist gives to the industry and the audience, let's have more of such breed. He has made a flawless directorial debut."
And still they are cautious about Welcome releasing the same day:
Quote:
http://www.indiafm.com/news/2007/12/19/10625/index.htmlThere have been murmurs around the film's box office prospects getting hampered due to parallel release of Welcome. Akshay Kumar is on a roll and director Anees Bazmee is super charged with Welcome arriving two years after his last blockbuster No Entry.
"I am sure that Taare Zameen Par would stand on it's own in spite of Welcome. Yes, Welcome is going to be a 'masala' entertainer and even I am not going to miss it at the theaters. But then is it against the law to watch two films over the same weekend? Even if Welcome is as commercial as it gets, Taare Zameen Par also qualifies itself into 'don't miss it' category."
BTW, Welcome is starting a day earlier, on Thursday at Toronto Desi Cinemas. From Friday, it's both TZP and Welcome at Toronto 'A' Theaters as well.
Not sure if either film is showing in Ottawa. SilverCity doesn't have either of the film in their schedule.
----------------------------------------------
Added Later:
Welcome is now listed for Rainbow Cinemas. Not a theater of choice, but better than Welcome not showing at all.
TZP still not showing at Ottawa AMC or Silvercity listings for next week.

I expected TZP to be showing at Silvercity.
