Hi All,

Wondering if you could help me out.

I have a PS3 connected to my Panasonic SC-HT920 which supports DTS.

The PS3 is set up for Optical Out with DTS and 5.1 selected. BD/DVD Setting have Bitstream also selected.

I pop in a Superbit DVD (XXX or Resident Evil) and choose DTS sound, the receiver is showing ERROR and then shows D-IN flashing back and forth. If I switch the audio to 5.1 the audio kicks in fine and the receiver shows D-IN with 5.1 sound.

Do you think the Optical Cable is damaged? I picked it up from Blockbuster for $2 Canadian. Or do you think the PS3 output is messed up?

If I change the BD/DVD Settings to LPCM then the DTS gives me 2CH sound but the receiver doesnt show me DTS.

Any suggestions PLEASE? I am thinking of buying a $50 cable from BestBuy Canada later today.

If your optical cable works fine for Dolby Digital signal then there should not be problem with DTS signal. I don't think cable has anything to do with what kind of signal you are sending.
May be, PS3 or receiver needs some settings. But I may be wrong.

Did you try to use Coaxial Digital Audio connection, if avaliable on both, PS & receiver?

Before spending $50 on any kind of cables, please browse through monoprice website.

The PS3 is set for optical out with 5.1 and DTS selected as well as bitstream.

The only setting for optical on the receiver is to turn on Digital Input .. thats it

My receiver has coax input but the PS3 doesnt have coax out.

Oh one thing I should mention is that if go optical out from the LCD to the Receiver with this same cable it doesnt detect a digital connect which again makes me think it might be the cable

Well, I had Best Buy check out my old Panasonic HT (it was on an extended 4 yr service plan) and they returned it back to me stating no fault found  Well the problem still existed and I went back, they said since it was within 2 wks of the repair they would swap it for something new 8)

Well I decided to with Sony Home Theatre System w/HDMI (HT-DDW990). The speaker are small but sound very powerful. I am no audio experts like some of you here but it they seem pretty darn good. For the audio now I have HDMI in from the PS3 and Optical In from the PS3, seems perfect. Thing I cant figure out and I dont think it exists for this system is that Lossless audio only works via HDMI right, and this system cant handle it? How can I found this out?

I know it doesnt have a DVD player with it but I talked BB into giving me one, so I chose the Pioneer Upconverting HDMI DVD Player With 1080P and DivX (DV-400V-K) with USB input and HMDI upconverting.

Also is it worth keep this this? Is it good for the amp portion alone? I didnt go with a 6.1 or 7.1 as some places I have read mention it not worth it right now.

is your PS3 set to output bitstream or pcm only?

Leave it to bitstream if you are using optical out.

sure! bro! imho, 6.1 or even 7.1 esp some ps3 games like resistence has divine sound.

5.1 is pretty good, but 7.1 overlay over 5.1 is pretty darn good surround experience.

I have not been impressed with sony audio stuff, might look into denon/onkyo home theater system

Check out the below thread from avsforum. it gives really good alternatives to HTIB without spending more than a HTIB would cost! Stay away from sony HTIB!!
