No Reservations is a remake of the French film Mostly Martha (2001). So if Cheeni Kum lifted from anything, it is from the French film.

Mostly Martha was a German film I think. Dear God! I'm so disappointed that even Cheeni Kum had to lift (copy/steal) from a European film. Bollywood films don't just rip-off US films they seem to be ripping-off world cinema. Is it lack of talent or lack of originality that "Bollywood" keeps on doing this?

Jadoo, if you wish to watch the film, watch it. Don't let a negative review keep you from doing so, and, I suppose, don't let a postive one force you to the screen.

As for "lifting," I'm getting a unbearably sick of reading everyone bash Indian filmmakers as "plagiarists." Sure, there's some disturbingly ripped-off tripe out there (Kaante, Ek Ajnabee, Zinda, etc.), but the entire institution is far from bent on theft. I hate to beat a dead horse, but, indeed, everything does come from somewhere. Hell: Scarface is a re-make of the Paul Muni films of the 1930s. Just hearing, "this film was inspired by this work" shouldn't be a red light to Indians: "Oh, shit: another rip-off!" Look at Apne: Of course, it wouldn't exist if Rocky had never been made, but neither would countless other movies (across the globe); the Indian effort is hardly to be taken as a "rip-off." Sarkar — which I only "like" — was supposedly inspired by The Godfather, but, really, which "mob movie" since Coppola's hasn't taken some direction from the source? Varma just happened to mention where he got his idea from, unlike many, many others, who just keep their mouths shut and make their films.

As moviegoers, I think we can tell when we're watching the product of a lazy, head-stuffed-with-shit sort of filmmaker whose hope is to translate a script into Hindi and throw in a few half-baked songs, and lure an audience he knows will watch the raging beast of laziness and shittiness to a degree great enough to "earn" him a profit. We also recognize the result of a person who saw a picture and really, really liked it, and decided to incorporate its idea into his or her own effort. I'm just so ill from enduring all the posts (not just here) lambasting a person as soon as someone "figures out," "I've heard that before... Oh, my god: it's a rip-off from Hollywood! Not again!"

Let's be aware, but let's not grab our pitchforks and light our torches and set out fuming-mad on a witch-hunt. As well, if we're not too tired from hold ourselves back from this sort of assault, let's try bravely to actually wait to watch a film before forming an opinion on it, and then allowing that opinion not to be biased by a layer of pre-determined antipathy and resentment.

:o I would take Commando303 bhai's advice and judge it for yourself, might be just one those movies that has a love or hate affect. I just found the promos boring and the movie even more so.
