Any indications on what language this album is going to be?

btw, I think ARR shot to fame cause of Rangeela & Dil Se - complemented his earlier hits & proved versatility. The internet didn't hurt either.

what do you think?

Not as far as I know.

Sounds about right to me. Rangeela was ARR's first direct Hindi film, and Dil Se was on a totally different level from anything he had done before.

IR-Kamal-PVasu Combining for first time for Kamal's next movie "Sakalakala Vallavan". I know PVasu extract good music from IR (Not classic, but "commercial") and Kamal-IR combo is also known for giving out some best songs and experimenting music. Lets see how this new commercial/entertainer will come up with!

Noted mathematician remembered
Staff Reporter
Friends, associates pay rich tributes to P.K. Srinivasan

CHENNAI: He saw everything in math and math, in everything — this is how friends and associates of P.K. Srinivasan (PKS, as he was fondly called) described him at the second remembrance day organised here recently.

The mathematics educator strongly believed that branding a student as being “dull” did not mean that the student was a failure. It was the failure of a teacher and the system, the noted mathematician would say.

Music director Illayaraja, in his tribute, said he completely agreed with PKS’ view point about mathematics reflecting in everything we see and do. “There is a lot of mathematics in music. Not just in pieces where the thalam is explicitly seen, but also in music that does not follow any specific thalam,” he said.

Demonstrating this through a tamil viruttam, the maestro said a particular speed and measured pauses in between made delivery effective. If the tempo were slower, it wouldn’t be as effective, he explained.

“Music is not just in complex calculations. Rhythm or mathematics (kalapramanam) is inherent, though subtle, in every phrase. In its natural course and flow, all forms of music have mathematics in them,” he said.

In a painting, there was mathematics in symmetry. In saint Thyagaraja’s compositions, there was mathematics in structure, he added, citing the saint composer’s ‘Brova Barama’ in raga Bahudari as an example.

“However, we find mathematics and calculations being used merely in one’s quest for money or power,” Mr. Illayaraja said.

A. Nagarajan, Director and Director General (Training), urged students to see mathematics as an instrument for everyday living. “It is no demon,” he said.

R. Vijaya Lakshmi, senior mathematics teacher, AMTI, recalled the passion and enthusiasm PKS had for the subject. Even while in the ICCU before his death, PKS was busy constructing magic squares, speakers said. H. Guhan, alumnus of Padma Seshadri (K.K.Nagar) and past president of the PKS Math Club in the school spoke.

The meeting was organised by PKS’ family members and the PKS Math Club of PSBB (K.K.Nagar).

Gulzar, Ilayaraja come together after 26 years
By IANS
Feb 28, 2009, 07:07

Mumbai, Feb 28 (IANS) The last time they worked together was in the 1983 movie “Sadma”. Now, after 26 years, Gulzar is once again teaming up with Ilayaraja for “SRK” and says the music maestro’s ability to create “perfect harmony” is still intact.

“The last time Ilayaraja and I came together was for Balu Mahendra’s ‘Sadma’. Now we’re working together in another film after so many years,” Gulzar told us.

“His aptitude and skills for creating the perfect harmony have not altered at all. Ilayaraja is one of his kind. I wish he was heard more often in Hindi cinema,” said the lyricist, who has just won an Oscar for his song “Jai ho” in “Slumdog Millionaire”.

“SRK” is being directed by Ajay Varma, a descendant of the legendary painter Raja Ravi Varma. The film stars Vinay Pathak, Rituparna Sengupta and Manoj Joshi among others.

“It’s interesting that Ajay Varma has made a film at just about the same time a film on the life of Raja Ravi Varma by Ketan Mehta is ready for release,” said Gulzar.

The poet is not too fond of the title though.

“The film is at the moment called SRK. Hopefully, it will change. What the film most certainly changes is the idiom of expression for film music. I feel Shaad Ali’s ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ and Anurag Kashyap’s ‘No Smoking’ gave me a chance to experiment with words in a way that film music generally doesn’t. Now I feel the same way about my poetry in ‘SRK’.”
