As far as picture quality and most complete version?
I've seen the reviews on the site for the DEI/EROS releases which look fine. Are non DEI copies on the EROS label any different?

Also, what are the original aspect ratios of these films?

The reviews have the discs with 1.33 and 1.85 ratios respectively. Are these accurate to the original films?
Thanks!

Deewar:
DEI-EROS Deewar is better than EROS Deewar.

Zanjeer:

- not only is video cropped from sides (taken from 2.35:1 print and cropped down to 1.85:1) but also from top and bottom which is quite evident on some scenes (Zanjeer was originally shot full frame 4:3)

Despite cut picture, DEI-EROS version is the best available.

Of Deewaar (1975), I've owned the Eros version as well as the Eros/DEI; I found the two to be identical in regard to both video and audio, both DVDs being overall excellent. Both releases present the movie 1.33:1, and, as far as I know, this is the film's original ("shot") aspect ratio.

I've owned the Eros and Eros/DEI versions of Zanjeer, as well, and the only difference I noticed was the menu. Both releases had great sound and picture, though the latter was quite disappointing in how it masked the top and bottom of the frame in an effort to "force" "wide-screen." (Cosmetically, the cover of the Eros DVD features a black border and chain around the main image [which is identical to the Eros/DEI one].)

Hey Commando,
I saw Deewar dvd by EROS B4U and it does not comes any closer to the one by EROS/DEI which I have. In fact the audio and video quality was pathetic. So are we talking about any other release by Eros ?

Enjoy

I, unfortunately, have the EROS version of Deewaar as I could never find the DEI/EROS one. I must say the quality is pretty bad. The picture is very soft and when the camera is in motion, it is blurry. Now I've never seen the DEI/eros version but there is no way it could be identical to this piece of crap.

Looks like Commando may have one of those earlier releases right after the EROS, DEI split. I've heard that some EROS titles released around that time were in fact identical to their DEI counterparts.

You may not find DEI-EROS titles listed with e-tailers but all (almost) are easily available on store shelves. Or, you ask for them and the store will find/ obtain one. Most likely these are replicas ?? but are orig DEI encodings.

Chances are I do have the "early" Eros release of Deewaar. I also got my hands on a Baba copy of Don once, which I'd heard was terrible, yet the quality (picture and sound) were identical to the DEI release (which excels in both areas). It seems that once DEI made a DVD, everyone else just stole their version... .

Shemaroo seem to be sticking that 'Full Version' thing on all their redesigned covers these days. I've seen it on Rangeela, Judaai among others. It just looks to be a marketing ploy to make you think there's been edited versions in the past and that you're getting the uncut version when actually there's nothing you haven't seen before.

Anyways, Shemaroo's 'Full Version' claims are known to be bogus since it marketed Baghban that way, yet it ended up being the edited version with the trimmed hotel scene.

I lost/ misplaced my copy of DEI Deewar so wanted to pick up another one that looked like same cover as DEI (EROS). There was another cheaper looking (Rs 99 EROS) version too, so assumed the orig looking case to be DEI encoding.
But, it was not. It was EROS encoding Field Averaged and crap.

Picked up used copy of DEI Deewar.
DEI cover, as well as, EROS cover states film length to be 160 min where as it's 173 min in DEI version.

DEI disc is almost 8 GB (Prog). EROS one is aprox 6.5 GB that inlcudes tons of adverts and is field averaged interlaced.
