Particularly, which were the first color Indian films, the first to use stereophonic sound and the first to use widescreen?

Was the US CinemaScope and stereo explosions of the mid 50's carried over to India? Or did those films just not play over there?

Thanks!

I think that the first cinemascope film was 'Kaagaz Ke Phool' by Guru Dutt, the first sound film was 'Alam Ara' and the first colour film was 'Jhansi Ki Rani'.

Aside from them I do not know which was the first film in stereo - maybe 'Sholay'?

Thanks, Muz.

Did Dye Transfer Technicolor appear in India or was it strictly Eastmancolor?

First Tamil film with DTS- Karuppu Roja (1996, Tamil)

First Hindi film with DTS- Judwaa (1997)

FYI, Guru Dutt's film Gauri would have been the first CinemaScope film, but he never finished it.

Jhansi Ki Raani was full-blown technicolor. The negatives were sent to London (I think) for processing. I do not know what the first Indian Eastmancolor film would have been ...

Interesting about Gauri - was that the film that was to have starred Geeta Dutt? I remember reading about it in a book about Guru Dutt. It'd be great if some footage was available from whatever they filmed of it (if anything).

As for the use of colour in films, as far as I know, Hindi cinema starting making films on a regular basis in colour in the 60s, but a lot of Bengali films were still black and white in the 80s - does anyone know if this was the case with other regional films?

How about Hindi B/W movies in 70s or later, anyone knows?
I can recall one of the last Hindi B/W movie to be Khamoshi (Rajesh Khanna) released in 1969.
