Excerpts from Mr. Adarsh's review of Black Friday.

Quote:
Some films leave you stunned and speechless with sheer power. The powerful story, the powerful execution, the powerful performances sweep you off your feet. Long after you’ve watched the film, it still haunts you, it disturbs you, it stays in your memory, it still sends a chill down your spine if you recall the incidents.

BLACK FRIDAY, directed by Anurag Kashyap, is one such film!

Quote:
Certain films are beyond box-office. You don’t look at the balance sheet at the end of the day, calculating the crores the investors may’ve earned or lost. It’s not about making money here [if the investors do, great!], but all about documenting a tragedy you can never erase from your memory. The personal losses, the pain, the sorrow… Even if the wounds may have healed, the scars will always remain.

Watch BLACK FRIDAY. It’s Hindi cinema at its best!

Quote:
On the whole, BLACK FRIDAY is an outstanding piece of work. One of the finest products to come out of Mumbai, this one is a hard-hitting film that has the courage to say what it says. Do yourself a favor: Watch BLACK FRIDAY. Hindi cinema at its best!

Unfortunately it doesn't look like it's playing in UK. Maybe it will be released later or straight to DVD. Your best to check out indie/arthouse cinemas as I'm sure the usual "bollywood" family crowds in UK will not go to see this.

I finally watched this and must say that this film deserves all the praise that it's been receiving. It is an excellent film, brilliantly directed by Kashyap.

For those of you in the UK, Black Friday has been released on DVD. It's a 2-disk set from Adlabs where the second disc includes, the making of documentary, trailer, TV promos, 2 music videos and deleted scenes.

It's quite a good transfer, the best I've seen from an Indian DVD in a long time. Definately worth getting. My only compaint is that some of swear words were bleeped out (like L.O.C Kargil), but the translation was there in the subtitles.

I just hope Paanch will be released too.

I rented the Adlabs DVD and the transfer wasn't very good. Looked like a PAL to NTSC job to me.

Great movie. I can't believe that Anurag Kashyap wrote Shakalaka Boom Boom

I'm sure I read somewhere that Shakalaka Boom Boom was a low point in his career!!!

Really, well I don't know but it seemed a vast improvement over other Indian DVD's I've seen. I haven't bought many Indian DVD's and I remember when I used to buy more regularly was 5 years ago where the quality was mostly bad. So I was surprised with what to me looked like good quality for an Indian DVD.

SBB takes away any respect for Kashyap, I can't believe he would even be involved with that trash. I hope Kashyap makes non-bollywood Indian films. I don't see Black Friday as a bollywood film, it seems a cut above. I saw a feature on NDTV last night about an Indian filmmaker in Cannes who is trying to unite all non-bollywood Indian directors to start a "New Wave" in Indian cinema. Films that would appeal to Indian Cinephiles as well as international audiences. He was supported by Mani Ratnam.
