But why oh why did they have Kristin Kreuk playing the role of the muslim girl? Were there no Indian/Pakistani girls who could have done so and I may say a better job? Don't get me wrong she is OK as an actress and cute, but she's half-white half-chinese and I think it's unfair on actors from south asian backgrounds who didn't even get the chance. I expected better from an Indian-born director.
The film is running in the art circuit. This week it's in Ottawa and may be other places too. The film and interviews have been covered widely in the media. As I read/ seen in interviews:
The maker/ director is 'last name' Sarin. He made this film from what he himself witnessed. As I can see it from its storyline, it's basically Gadar type film. But, made for Western audiences. He did not want to portray India/ Pakistan seperation but an 'India Pakistan Type' mass migration, termoil/ separation and that's why non-Indian actors.
All this as I recall from publicity material/ interviews.
Hopefully, I'll catch this film in a day or two.
