I wonder what the hell was wrong with the retard who put together this list of 2006's "worst" films (http://specials.rediff.com/yearend/2007 ... yrsld2.htm):

10. Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota: A fucking great film, with an only slightly-less-than-tight ending. On the whole, however, the movie just works: performances, characterizations, pacing — it's all there, and it's all damned near perfect. What a way to kick off a "worst-of" list.

9. 36 China Town: Not perfect (disturbingly bad conclusion), but well-acted and able to strike the right balance (mostly) between drama and humor. If Priyadarshan insists on mixing genres, he might take a page from this movie, rather than just have everybody in his films run around like a fucking idiot for the last ten minutes.

8. Vivah: For the type of film it is, simply great. Yes, it's not "realistic" and it's not "novel," but Vivah is a very well-acted, sincere, likeable movie. After a few utter disasters to his name, Sooraj Barjatya finally made a good movie that re-worked the magic of the typical "family" formula. What a way to go, calling it the eighth-worst film of 2006.

7. Zindagi Rocks: Haven't seen it.

6. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna: I don't love this film the way the audiences and Karan Johar together seem to, but it's just not the sixth worst film of 2006. It's not great, and it's not supremely "meaningful" or "intelligent," but it's... it's just not bad enough to make a list like this.

5. Family: I admit, it was a mish-mash of crap, and Aryeman sucked in his part. It felt as though different parts of the film were granted to different directors, and as though everything was then just ultimately sewn together seams glaringly visible. Hell, Amitabh Bachchan didn't even get to dub his own fucking lines for most of the film! How do you release an incomplete movie and hope not to have it suck? (It takes gall, apathy, and stupidity, I suppose.) Nevertheless, Amitabh Bachchan was Amitabh Bachchan, and that's no small fucking thing. Even with someone else doing a lot of the A.D.R., and some lines just caught in low-quality synch.-sound, Bachchan came through cool and awesome as ever as Viren Sahi. Maybe that doesn't save the film, but I'd say it knocks it a notch or two above "fifth-worst movie of '06."

4. Fanaa: It was bad, contrived, and spit in the face of showing any serious concern about terrorism. Aamir Khan didn't fit the "first" role of the film; so, it was up to Kajol to try to save things. She couldn't do it alone, but I think she made it so that Fanaa doesn't belong in the spot of 2006's "fourth-worst film."

3. Don: It's not anywhere near so good as Chandra Barot/Amitabh Bachchan's 1978 cult classic. So what? Yeah, the ending is fucking pitiable and stupid. Nevertheless, Don is not a movie you sit through thinking, "what is this shit-trap I've walked into?" The performances are acceptable, the action usually works, the background track is a decent re-mix of the classic. Don simply does not deserve this position on this list.

2. Shiva: Haven't seen it.

1. Umrao Jaan: Haven't seen it.

I commend the writer for including such trash as KANK, Fanaa and Don on the list, but Umrao Jaan the worst? Pft, more like one of the best.

I don't thnk Shiva and Umrao Jaan should be on the list, especially since you haven't seen them. There were some far worse films out.
I didn't like Dhoom 2 much.

OK, ummm, I didn't make the list; I posted it here so I could point out how "dumb-ass" it is. I'd have thought that almost every comment's ending in something to the effect of, "does not deserve to be on a 'worst-of' list" would have reinforced this.

Personally, I quite liked Dhoom 2; I just hated about the last fifteen minutes.

OK then, I didn't read your intro. That makes sense, esp since the guy included 2 films he hasn't seen.

No, no, it's not that the person who made the list didn't see the films that say "haven't seen it"; it's that I haven't seen them, and so can't attack or support their being on the list.

Oh, come one, Faddy, you didn't like Vivah at all? Not even Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota? At least the latter was reasonably novel and well-made. :?

The list is not about the worst films of 2006 in general but the worst high profile films with high expectations attached.

That's what I ended up figuring, but, nevertheless, I think it ends up being grossly unfair. It seems to me that all it does is list the biggest films of 2006, mention some perceived "flaws," and from that call them all bad. I get that garbage like Shatrughan Sinha's wife's directorial debut (I forget the title of the film, at the moment) doesn't even count; nonetheless, I was just appalled to read the decisions of the composer of this particular "worst-of." Hell, when Umrao Jaan is named "worst film of 2006" — I admit I haven't yet seen it; but, if reviews and box-office success mean a thing (eh... maybe they don't, always) — then this is more something pulled out of an ass than created with some thought and effort.

I never included Dhoom 2 into this despite Ash! but UJ imho, is huge defeat and monumentous failure on part of Dutta, and Ash, to proove himself good film maker and Ash as an actress of substance!

Dhoom like films do not make or break for Ash or not Ash!

Hmmm... I guess I really ought to catch Dutta's Umrao Jaan. The only thing is, I don't think it'll really be my "type" of film; I acknowledge that Rekha's Umrao Jaan is, in its on right, quite a classic. Like the songs as I do, though, I just can't sit through it — .

Concerning J.P. Dutta, I have no idea what to make of him as a film-maker, right now. I loved Border, but hated (with a fucking passion) L.O.C. — Kargil.

Jaan-E-Mann should've made this list. It's by far the worst Bollywood film I've seen in the last year or so.
