Hi,
There are 2 new DVDs of Lakshya coming out in the next 2 weeks.
Both are for German territories. A German and a Swiss version.
The Swiss version is the one to get.
Hindi and German DD 5.1, anamorphic PAL from the HD master, 25 fps progressive with
pitch corrected sound. More supplements than on the NTSC DVD and direct PAL instead
of NTSC converted.
Image quality: I'll let you know when I have seen it. :D

From what you describe, it'll be a perfect DVD.

Now, a question that I had been thinking of asking, for a while:

What happens if a 25 fps progressive (HD or otherwise) master is used to make/ claim a 24 fps (HD or otherwise) progressive DVD. They may field average it (to convert 25 to 24) or they may speed shift it. If Field Averaged, wouldn't the benefit of Progressive encoding all get lost ??

From what you describe, it has too many supplements to be on one disc, whilst preserving video/audio quality. if everything is crammed onto one disc, I would expect video quality to deteriorate.

Here's hoping for the best though.

Answers:
- It's a 2 DVD-9 edition like NTSC
- HD-DVD: :D :D :D no comment :D :D :D (the HD of Lakshya is unfortunately not Hollywood quality for technical reasons I can talk about some other time)
- 25 fps: The HD is 1080p24 not 25. The PAL DVD has 4% speedup but is progressive after 2:2 pulldown, no frame averaging. The sound is pitch corrected (so no change in pitch for golden ears to hear). The film runs 4% faster as unavoidable in PAL with correct progressive frames as on film.
- Supplements: Additional deletes scenes, German subtitles on supplements as well
- image quality: have not seen it yet but it should be about as good as the HD master allows, no filtering, no additional EE (the DI of Lakshya had some EE as the prints and the HD derived from it)

There is no DTS. Not enough bits available. If there is a HD-DVD it will likely have lossless True-HD or DTS-HD. :-)
The German DVD is from 4:3 PAL TV master interpolated to anamorphic 16:9. The Swiss DVD is from 1080p HD downsampled to anamorphic PAL.

I don't think it's either. Probably a NTSC to PAL conversion of the NTSC DVD or a PAL version from India sold to France. I can't be sure without seeing it, though.

That's the UK version. Amazon.fr have imported it. I have the DVD and it's identical to the US UTV disc.
