just when we thought there were only 2 cop films coming out, there is a third now… and its directed by manish gupta (the guy who wrote d

and sarkar)! though sonu sood seems like a terrible choice from what little I have seen of him, but this still sounds pretty interesting… esp w/ om puri there. we cld be getting 3 potential great cop films this summer! will be interesting to see how gupta makes out post ramu...
Sonu Sood will play the role of Om Puri in the remake of Ardh Satya

Actor Sonu Sood has been chosen to play the character of Om Puri in the new remake of Ardh Satya. The film has been titled Chai Paani Sahib and will be directed by Manish Gupta who has earlier scripted films like Sarkar and D.
Om Puri will also star in the film and play an ACP. Determined to make it seem as realistic as possible, the director has shot the film on actual locations such as Dharavi and the Kherwadi police stations.
“I play Sriram Narvekar in the film and you can call the film a modern-day Ardh Satya. We have been shooting in real-life locations like Dharavi, Patelwadi and other slums. In fact, even today, we shot a vital sequence at the Kherwadi police station,†says actor Sonu Sood. “Chai Paani… deals with the ups and downs of a cop's life just as in Ardh Satya. It shows how the cop deals with the underworld, extortions and so on. Manish Gupta told me that Chai Paani… was his tribute to the classic.â€
About his role in the film, Sonu says, “When Manish narrated the film to me, I was overwhelmed by the way he had crafted it. After I agreed to do the film, I saw Ardh Satya several times. But I did not want to play the character in a similar fashion so I have come up with my own style. What you will see is a cop who reacts like Nana Patekar from Ab Tak Chappan, has behavioral traits of Om Puri from Ardh Satya and has a unique style like Amitabh Bachchan's from Zanjeer. There are glimpses of all these great actors in the character I play.â€
Sonu has enjoyed shooting in real life locales for the film. “It creates a certain degree of realism,†he says. “I was shooting at Patelwadi near Seven Bungalows and was surprised to see the warmth and the unity of people living there!†he says. “The title of the film Chai Paani Sahib is apt. All know what what 'chai paani' means in the cops' language and it speaks volumes about bribes and underhand deals.â€
Sonu reveals that the film has not only characters from real life but also scenes that correspond closely with real life.
