and so it starts mocking the audience right from the beginning leaving "us" drenched in silence as it raced towards the finish line. We left the cinema hall divided; while some were stupefied others (including myself) were stunned. I humbly bow-down to selvraghavan for having painstakingly etched this on ‘his’ canvas. Without doubt this was among the most anticipated Tamil film and to my delight this not only met my expectation but also raised the bar on what I can expect from Tamil cinema ( perhaps India cinema also). That said be warned that this does work within the limitation of “song-dance” paradigm of Indian cinema , however the overall content and style more than makes-up for this narrative-hindrance, special mention of Yuvan’s music is warranted – truly experimental and makes the film even more surreal.

I honestly don’t know how this will translate to other “non-tamil” speaking crowd, either ways those looking for “serious” cinema I cannot recommend this enough.

On a side note - I saw it at Satyam cinema and the self-promoted super-35 format used in the film was indeed beautifully rendered, I def did not see any problems with it or maybe I did not know what I should be looking for!

The DVD will probably be released within the next 3 months. Hopefully from Ayngaran or VGP and not Sruthi (one of the cheapo brands of Tamil DVDs)

It definitely "wow-ed" me ...., like they say a good artist excites you more than he entertains and in that respect this film shines. I am hoping i can check it out again on the big screen till a DVD comes out - of all films this one begs to have a good DVD release, otherwise the colour schemes( that is extensively used in the film) is completely wasted

Every one of selvaragavan movie "wow-ed" me. I compare him closer to KB (both their movies mostly talk about an individual than a social problem, though KB attempted address few social concerns which are all floped - Unnal Mudiyum Thambi is a classic example). More than the movie, your review make me watch this movie again.

While it raised your and everybody's expectation, there are rumous (and I agree with that) that the movie is inspired from City of God.

Well it might have been an "inspiration" , perhaps there are even shades of Scarface and Godfather also but thats were it clearly stops, i strongly belive that Pudhupettai has its own identity both in style and content .
