wow, YS Raja's Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu is impressive! maybe we should start a thread for his stuff, since he's been coming out with so much stuff, I can't keep track of it. It should also help filter out some of the subpar crap

what do you guys think of this album? I'll be buying this one for friends! Femme Raja rawks! trailers also look very good

watched One Man Show - Man its a treat for IR fans. Its like watching ur favorite person non stop for 2 hour. Surprised to hear Amuthae Thamizhae after long time. IR speach about Kannadasan is also very impressive. If IR praises a person to this extend, then Kannadasan must really be great. The best of all is when IR finish singing Maanguyilae Poonguilae from Karakattakaran and the host ask him to imitate how YSR would sing the same song - Man for few seconds I didnt see IR, I just saw YSR. A pop/rap version of Maanguyilae in YSR style was awesome. Entire ground was laughing when IR started. Another very interesting is to see this man coming up with tunes on the fly for one of a very old tamil poem.

IR The Great. I am still waiting for Netru Indru Naalai - I saw them online and loved it, but I badly need DVD now.

He deserve a special place in TFM already. With IR doing more MFM and ARR not in active film music, he is the only saving grace for tamil film music. He get "inspiration" a lot from RAP but you can forgive him for turning a RAP into an eventual melody. Saw trailers of Vallavan and Pudhupettai and YSR rocks in BGM and song.

BTW Pudhupettai trailer gives a very good hope for the movie.

Yes, heard them. Good but not great. Rasathanthiram is much better album.

The two come together after seventeen years

Subhash k Jha

Life, in more ways than one , has come a full circle for Ram Gopal Varma. Seventeen years after he made his first film Shiva, Varma is making another film by the same name. He has also roped in Shiva's music director Ilaiyaraaja to compose the music for the new film of that name.

“Call it nostalgia, but I wanted Ilaiyaraja back in my cinema,” says the filmmaker who has worked with music composers like R.D. Burman in Drohee, Vishal Bhardawaj in Satya, Sandeep Chowta in Mast and Amar Mohile in Naach.

“I like to experiment with the sound of music in my films. When I decided to do Shiva again, I could only think of Ilaiyaraaja,” says Varma.

In spite of some popular scores for films like Sadma and Hey Ram, Ilaiyaraaja failed to establish a foothold in Bollywood.

“I never go by the salability of the star,” says Varma. “If I'm working with Ilaiyaraaja in Shiva, I'm also working with Himesh Reshammiya in Sholay. It all depends on what the situation requires. As for Ilaiyaraaja, you have to see how contemporary his music in Shiva is.”

Varma is currently shooting two of Ilaiyaraaja songs with Mohit Ahlawat and Nisha Kothari in Bangkok. “The songs just left us breathless,” he says.

Same here man. IR disappointed in few recent albums - same mundane stuff, so hoping for something different here. When I watched Sarkar I had that feeling that IR would have done a better job instead of "Govinda Govinda background/song" and hoping that it comes true.
