I just saw it, and I have to say, "eh." I went in with high expectations about this thing: the commercials and title made it seem that the film would really be "smart"; a lot of people seem to hold it in high regard, as far as comedies are concerned; Ebert and freakin' Roeper (I think) each gave it their "thumb's up"; etc. Having seen the film, however, it struck me as little more than just another dumb comedy-cum-romantic-comedy. There's no real "heart," no tangible "idea" behind the film, no genuinely "hillarious" moments; it's just totally average.
American Pie was awesome, as were
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and
Some Like It Hot. I didn't expect
The 40-Year-Old Virgin to hit highs such as those films did, but I did expect it to out-do most other run-of-the-mill crap. What a disappointment...
