As you are saying, I see educated people renting compressed hindi dvds on DVD-R without any objection..lol

I even know a guy who spent about 10K for home theatre and watch (? search is the right word) movie on a pirated VHS. so...

I agree with kits completely. no matter how good the quality is, quantity seems to be the choice of ours

Welcome!! kits!! this scares me "EROS GOING HIGH DEF DVDS"

BEI's latest titles has been atrocious, being exact! I saw some hope in UTV but they churned a below par product, just to sell it umpteen time, like Devdas 4X or so!! Well!!

I guess BEI finally wants to make some money! In 2 years with iDream we saw sales of DVDs to Indian stores taking a nose dive with DVD Recorders getting cheaper and blank DVD-+Rs almost available for free. This made most Indian stores to make copies and still rent them for $2 just like they do originals. When one store does this, the competing store follows it to sustain customers as they can rent DVD to almost every customer who asks for the movie. Our customers love to see the movie the first weekend! They don't know that the days for quality DVDs will be numbered everytime they rent one of those DVD-Rs.

So, we lost the passion to run iDream and sold it to KAD. KAD will keep it going as they want to release only good titles on iDream and the rest on KAD. I hope they succeed in this approach.

On my part, I decided not to loan my DVDs to anyone. They are welcome to see in my house or rent it from Indian store. This way, I atleast force them to contribute $2 towards a DVD  At one stage, I had a waiting list of friends who will be taking my new DVD. All that has changed now and all my friends take it in good spirit and they understood my intentions well. Fortunately!

I think most of us need to appreciate the best of the worst instead of taking them for granted. I got Rang De Basanti just to show my support to UTV. They could have done it better but I learned to appreciate the fact they tried their best.

Thats exactly what I do. I buy dvds from Idream and now UTV after Parineeta just to show my support to the companies who are at least trying. I would request people to at least support these companies in any way they can by buying or at least renting their dvds. Every dollar counts.

There's no double disc edition.

The screenshots from the DVD-R have been captured at 720x480 instead of 852x480, which is why they don't look right, although the aspect ratio is still actually messed up. It's been cropped from 2.35:1 to 2.25:1 and then framed incorrectly at 2.35:1, squashing the picture.

Someone told me that the animated scene showing MIG flight blasting wasnt in theatre. Not sure why this would be objected.

FYI, on April 21, 2006, another MIG crashed and raised the total death toll to 65 and the no. of accidents in 15 years to 76 (average 3 / year). Defence Ministry said out of 76 incidents, 11 of them are due to "mechanical difficulties" and the rest of them are due to pilot's mistake.

While RDB made this news more popular than ever, will it change anything? I dont think so. Jai Hind!
