I enquired about the forthcoming DVD of Mani Ratnam's new flick "Kanathil Muthamital" asking if there will be a two disc special next year and they revealed that it is a possibility, but to make the first release just as special Ayngaran are trying to gained access to the original DTS audio steams which might be used on DVD. They are thinking of doing both Dolby Digital 5.1 & DTS 5.1 on one disc, similar to the Gladiator DVD.

The DVD will be authored in India and released worldwide in around three months time after the cinema release goes down in sales. The film will be presented in anamorphic 2.20:1 widescreen, with optional English Subtitles.

Fingers crossed for DTS-tastic disc as most of thier original Dolby Digital 5.1 DVD's are top class.

You obviously know the Ayngaran people well, why don't you ask them why the video is always 2.20:1? Sure, it's not that much cropped, but I'd still like to see 2.40:1 when it is supposed to be that aspect ratio.

That is great news sunny but could any one make sense of what DEi promised for TNBP? Anyway Hindi movies nowadays in theaters are all crap...so a DTS dvd of a film like TNBP will not make any difference to me anymore.

I have spoken to Anygaran about the OAR problem and they have spoken to Prasad Labs, who author thier films onto DLT and DVD. Prasad are adimant that the films are presented in thier original aspect ratio, and they suspect the problem is due to overscanning. I have written to Prasad a formal complaint which they will get back to me very soon.

Intrestingly enough Prasad also author EROS DVD's and thier DVD's also have the same OAR problem. I have also included that in my letter.

If both Eros and Ayngaran DVDs are authored by the same people, why is there such a drastic difference in quality?

I would assume EROS pay less for the work therefore not much time or care is spent on the telecine transfering or the DVD encoding/authoring/menu work.

Also bhaskar which Ayngaran films did u order (should mention my name when ordering they might give you a discount - just kidding I doubt that I have that much power - although it would be nice?)

Unfortunately - I didn't!!!! I tried ordering, but when I got to the paying stage, it still charged me for 6 DVDs!!! I'll still be getting some, maybe later on when my finances are sorted - I am a poor student after all!!!

As for the discount, maybe you can sort something out for Zulm members......... :D
