I assume you are not from Tamil Nadu or atleast from the southern regions of the state ( esp. Madurai/Tirunalvelli ) -
caste issues are real , if you heard people actually dieing for their caste and you think its imagined ( Thevar Magan , Virumandi ) best assured - IT IS TRUE.
I often refer to Khadal as the most "Tamil" film in recent times - to truly appreciate the film some of the nuances of the culture have to be understood and one such attribute is the "role" caste plays in people’s life. The film underplays its role and yet manages to have a devastaing impact on the audience ( also the movie is based on true story - that alone must say something about it )
Anyways , i guess you liked Anniyan over Khadal ( to each his own ) , i am just glad that Khadal is also a hit meaning other people liked this film and thats an encouraing sign for Tamil Films
