Dreamz Unlimited is doing the promos for 'Devdas'. According to people who have seen the rushes, SK seems to have "acted" the first time in his life. The first hour or so of the movie is interesting, after which it ofcourse becomes depressing and melancholic.

The general feeling in the industry is that this tragedy may work because it has been a LOOOOONG while since a tragedy was made. The audiences are ready to cry buckets (I disagree). The music is supposed to be extremely good as well with Ismail Durbar coming up trumps again.

The story is the same that was used for both the earlier DEVDAS movies, the sets are bigger, the treatment larger. Incidentally both the Saigal and the Dilip Kumar versions were HUGE disasters at the BO. Will Bhansali's be any different?

Sorry, cannot confirm through information on other websites. But this from an industry source with whom I had a lengthy conversation just y'day. I mentioned that there was no way that DEVDAS would work since it was such a morose subject . He went on to make an argument that this was the reason why people felt it had a chance. We tried to trace back when it was last that a tragedy had hit the marquee in recent times and the last one I could remember was QSQT or Ek Duuje Ke Liye which I pointed were fun for the most part with a sad ending.

Which was why it would work was his point. This was where he went on to mention that both the earlier versions of DEVDAS were box office disasters. As i mentioned, it is an industry source with a firm grip on trade figures. And a trustworthy source.

Read the actor lists...

PC Barua was the director and it strred K.L.Saigal ! ( the only version in which he appeared)..

I am aware of one more version and that is the telugu version which starred ANR and I can safely say that is a Telugu Film Legendary classic (even till todate!)
