Hey guys, the release of the "Parineeta" DVD will be on September 13th. And it will be loaded with features and directors commentary (first time in Indian cinema) and other stuff. Looks like VVC wanted every nook and cranny cornered for this DVD which explains why it took such a long time to release. Kudos!!!

Excel Home Videos acquires ‘Parineeta’

Media Release, September 2
MUMBAI

‘Parineeta’ the Magnum opus from the Vidhu Vinod Chopra stable has been acquired by Excel Home Videos. Vinod Chopra Films, the production company of Vidhu Vinod Chopra has sold the DVD rights to Excel Home Videos. Excel Home Videos is the Indian Licensee for International Studios like 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney, Touchstone, Merchant Ivory etc.

Confirms M. N. Kapasi, Managing Director, Excel Home Videos, “Excel Home Videos has been involved mainly with Hollywood Studios in the past. This is our first mainstream bollywood film. The Vidhu Vinod Chopra tag is a synonym with high quality cinema, the consistency and the diversity of movies produced under the banner is testimony to their commitment to quality”.

Adds Vidhu Vinod Chopra, “Excel has the marketing infrastructure and professional approach to carry out operations in line with International standards with their past record of dealing with Hollywood studios” Parineeta, an adaptation from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Novel of the same name is a story of an orphan girl and her unspoken relationship with her rich childhood companion, which comes to the foreground on the arrival of an outsider into their lives.

The movie has its settings in the Calcutta of 1960 and the recreation of the time has been carried out with astounding detailing. The movie directed by Pradeep Sarkar, a veteran with Ad films and Music Videos, has Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan and newcomer Vidya Balan in the lead. The DVD is also loaded with additional features like the Directors Commentary (first time in India), never aired before interview with Saif Ali Khan, DTS and Dolby Digital options to enable high quality sound even on humble sound environments. This will be the first DVD to be having DTS sound. The launch of the DVD, scheduled for 13th September will also witness the launch of a perfume named after the movie.

- Ayngaran's DVD for Tamil Film 'Khakha Khakah' has a decent if not fine Audio commentary by director Gautham

Eitherways i would be interested to hear the directors commentary on this one - I thought the movie was poorly done, so will be interesting to see what the directors vision/intent was .
