I wonder how do you judge it half decent??
Agreed, there are some good frames (2 out of 5), but the rest of the frames are blurry due to field averaging.
I wonder, should we capture just the good frames or 5-6 cosequitive frames from a moving sequence?? 5-6 consequitive shots, from any action sequence, give clear indication, what percent of the frames are good/ bad.

It's neither fully field averaged, nor fully Pseudo-Progressive (definitely not Progressive). It's a new breed. Two frames are not field averaged (these will give good captures) and the next three are field averaged.

No 2-3 pull down available because of field averaging in 60% of the frames.

It is a perfectly screwed up dvd from a EXTREMELY GOOD SOURCE!

I watched the film finally, courtesy of great xeros dvd!

VIDEO is a total screwed up from a very very good Orig source!
I dont understand how by hook or crook Zeros F***** this up!

DD sound was extremely good with a lot of channel seperation and very nice lower end bass punch! except on the song Barsa re, where Chorus got back dropped as it was not put in extra/seperate channels and main voices over shdow that.
beyond that I can understand as few dialogues were totally seperated in side/rear channels, so if you dont have 5.1 set up(true) then those might seem to be in back ground,weak and barely audible..I think!


Now the film,:5/10

It is SLOW/BORING/OVER EXUBERANT/SAROOK ASS LADDEN FAIRY TALE(TAIL)imho!
SAROOK seem misrable and total misfit despite all that jewelery, expensive neklaces, huge turbans and expensive, silk brocade, keemkhab matching dhoti dresses, neela, peela, laal, hara, kasni..whatever!

Rani..well what can I say, she is THE BEST YOU GUYS got!

Only thing that stands out is Ravi Chandran's some good camera work.

Overall, imho, it is failure on part of Amol palekar as a director who just by going easy/sarook/huge exuberant way has turned down a film that could be classy/class/classic like Lekin into another JADOO BHARA MHN!

SFX might be the best ever in Indian film? but imho, that crow to squirrel, to ble bird, to crow was cheesy , yuk as it could be!

Narration by Naseer/Ratna was awful, thanks to a LOUSY SCRIPT and very very low class dialogues!

It was sinful to ABUSE, Sunil, JUHI, Rajpal Yadav /Amitabh(with long legs/short Farak..my god) just for publicity of the film for sarook production.

BOTTOM LINE, IT WAS A POTENTIALY CLASSIC THAT WAS LOST IN TRANSLATION THANKS TO PALEKAR/SAROOK team!

THey must have got their money back, based on Sarook/rani combo on plate, but film is a LET DOWN to creativity and Amol Palekar if he thinks he represents one!

Dialogues, no hindi, no rajasthani, some where hanging in between, depending upon actors capabilities are custom tuned, e.g Sarook seems lousy with rajasthani dilect while even in brief comeo Asif sheikh was very competent,.even anupam Kher could not carry it well, and Big B Sir like always take 5 minute things phony trying to make it as phony /unnatural as he can! Man that last 5 minute climax AB+2 SAROOK display was unbelievable!!

Some one commented that ALL hindi films should be like PAHELI! well, thats why they are all/mostly crap!thanks to your wishes coming true!

Every scene, I would wish, the film would be made when Anil Kapoor was saleable! as he was infron of my eyes all the time from Lamhe!

A film, combined Lamhe, Lekin would be perfect blend though!

The colors on the digital intermediate are good. If the DVD has a problem it happened later.
Grain reduction artifacts are part of the digital intermediate, and some digital sharpening too.

Now can we blame Eros for that

I don't think he looks old in PAHELI. Yes, I did find him looking old in KAL HO NAA HO (due to his back surgery) and VEER-ZAARA.

I agree!! He was NA FIT mostly for the role, Budha or not it was not that much an issue here!
